Cassie Ventura's attorney, Doug Wigdor, is lauding her bravery as Diddy's federal sex trafficking trial comes to an end.
The disgraced mogul has been found guilty of transportation to engage in prostitution, though he was cleared of sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy charges that could have sentenced him to life in prison. Moments after the verdict was announced, Wigdor issued a statement appreciating his client:
"This entire criminal process started when our client Cassie Ventura had the courage to file her civil complaint in November 2023,” he began. “Although the jury did not find Combs guilty of sex trafficking Cassie beyond a reasonable doubt, she paved the way for a jury to find him guilty of transportation to engage in prostitution. By coming forward with her experience, Cassie has left an indelible mark on both the entertainment industry and the fight for justice.”
His statement goes on,
“We must repeat – with no reservation – that we believe and support our client who showed exemplary courage throughout this trial,” Wigdor said. “She displayed unquestionable strength and brought attention to the realities of powerful men in our orbit and the misconduct that has persisted for decades without repercussion. This case proved that change is long overdue, and we will continue to fight on behalf of survivors.”
The latest developments of Diddy's case explored:
Ventura took to the stand during the trial to accuse the Bad Boy Records founder of tormenting her psychologically, in addition to routine sexual assault. She also accused him of forcing her to engage in "freak-offs," which were days-long, drug-fueled sex parties.
According to People Magazine, she was the first to come forward to accuse Diddy of physical abuse and sexual assault in November 2023, though they had an out-of-court settlement. She then became a key witness in his federal trial, as she sat through four days of testifying while in her final month of pregnancy.
The jury was even shown the video surveillance footage of Diddy beating and dragging her across the hotel lobby floor. Furthermore, photos and videos of the injuries she sustained during her decade-long relationship with the mogul were presented in court.
The Guardian has reported that Diddy has been found not guilty of racketeering conspiracy, the sex trafficking of Casandra Ventura, and the sex trafficking of “Jane," an anonymous woman who claimed to be a victim. He has, however, been convicted of the transportation to engage in prostitution, related to Casandra Ventura, and the transportation to engage in prostitution related to “Jane”.
The prosecutors in the case have since issued a lengthy statement, per the outlet, which reads as follows, in part:
"Sex crimes deeply scar victims, and the disturbing reality is that sex crimes are all too present in many aspects of our society. Victims endure gut-wrenching physical and mental abuse, leading to lasting trauma. New Yorkers and all Americans want this scourge stopped and perpetrators brought to justice. Prosecuting sex crimes requires brave victims to come forward and tell their harrowing stories. We and our law enforcement partners recognize the hardships victims endure and have prioritized a victim-centered approach to investigating and prosecuting these cases."
According to a live feed from the courtroom shared by The Guardian, minutes after the judge dismissed the jury and the lawyers, Diddy got down on his knees and joined his hands, as if to pray. He then stood up and panned to the courtroom gallery before declaring with a smile on his face,
“I’m gonna be home soon. I love you. Thank you, I love you.”
