Elsa Pataky, a Spain-born model, recently opened up to Harper's Bazaar about her and her husband's living situation. The Interceptor actress and the Thor alum currently reside in Australia in a $20 million home with their three children: India, born in May 2012, and twin sons Tristan and Sasha, born in March 2014.
Pataky, who met Chris Hemsworth back in 2010 through his agent and tied the knot with him later that year, told the outlet:
"I made him promise that neither of us would force the other to live in their country, because they were so far apart."
The two initially stayed in Los Angeles, but seeing the "work suffocate" each other, they decided to shift to Australia. She has since fallen in love with Australia and now finds Spain "complicated."
"It ended up happening because he took me to Australia, he showed me Byron Bay, and I fell in love, it was a paradise," she said of her love for nature. "Living in Madrid is complicated when you’ve already lived in the countryside, in the middle of nature, it’s hard," she added.
According to the Australian newspaper The Daily Telegraph, it was love at first sight when she saw what would later be her and her family's home.
"When I saw where my children could be raised, I knew that was the place," she said.
Cantabrian newspaper Alerta has reported that the future, however, might hold something different for the children.
"I think as my children become more grown up, they'll love being in a city, after having lived in a much smaller one," she reportedly said.
For Chris Hemsworth, though, there are no regrets, as he once stated that leaving Los Angeles "has been the best thing" for them.
"LA is a tough place to get around with kids," he said in a 2020 interview with Modern Luxury. "There's not a whole lot of foot traffic. It was all about loading up the car and car seats. Here, we just walk out the door and head to the beach down the street. It's a much more simple life."
The father-of-three has been known to dote on his wife and kids time and again. he even shared the screen with two of his children in 2022's Thor: Love & Thunder. In May 2024, his whole family showed up to support him at his Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony, though his daughter chose to stay out of the spotlight.
"My kids are endlessly inspiring for so many reasons," Chris Hemsworth said during his acceptance speech. "Their ability to live in the moment and to dive into life head first and to have fun and be joyous and playful is a constant reminder that that's what life's about. I love you guys."
According to The Daily Mail, the pair purchased their home, a staggering 4.2-hectare estate, back in 2014 for $7 million. However, they have since erected a mansion worth $50 million on it. The property boasts six bedrooms, a spa, a media room, and more.
Chris Hemsworth recently added a new home gym called The Shed to his property as part of his fitness brand, Centr, which launched this January. His personal trainer, Luke Zocchi, recently told Realestate.com.au that the state-of-the-art facilities serve as a medium for trainers to experiment with workouts while enjoying themselves.
"It's definitely next level," Zocchi said. "Chris made sure to include the latest and greatest Centr equipment in the gym." He added, "Some of the equipment isn't available in Australia yet, but will be soon. It's where Chris, the boys, and I can come through for a session, or we can just chill and recover when we need to. It's a place to really get after it or reset, depending on what we need."
