In the latest development concerning the recent Louvre heist, which shocked the world, the police have arrested five new suspects, reportedly linked to the theft. The hunt for those responsible has been escalating in intensity since the crime took place in an effort to bring the perpetrators to justice.As per BFMTV, a local French station, the latest arrests occurred during the evening of October 29 in Paris. One of the five suspects apprehended was already squarely in the sights of law enforcement. According to Paris prosecutor Laure Beccuau's words from a recent press conference,"There is DNA evidence linking him, from our perspective, to the robbery that was committed."The magistrate went on to explain that the other four men were corralled, "may eventually inform us about how the incident took place". The perpetrators allegedly arrived on the scene at 9:30 am local time as the museum was being opened to the general public.The four suspects involved used a vehicle-mounted mechanical lift to gain an access point to the Galerie d'Apollon, where their targeted items were being held. Local law enforcement has reported that the assailants were inside the Louvre for roughly four minutes. Image via Getty.Natalie Goulet, a vocal Senate finance committee member, shared with the BBC,"We are all disappointed and angry, (it’s) difficult to understand how it happened so easily."As per the BBC, roughly 60 investigators have currently been deployed on the case. As per reports, they are using everything at their disposal, including fingerprint analysis, as well as corroborating video and CCTV footage to help secure leads on the criminals involved.The prosecutors are meanwhile under the assumption that the criminals involved are part of some larger-scale network, although at this time that is undetermined.
