New details are emerging about the investigation into Celeste Rivas' demise after her mutilated corpse was uncovered in singer D4vd's Tesla.
Days after the teenager's decomposing body was discovered in an impound lot in Los Angeles, TMZ has reported that the Los Angeles Police Department is collaborating with the medical examiner to determine her cause of death.
Per the outlet, the investigation is "complicated," LAPD Captain Scot Williams said. As of this writing, it is unclear if she died of an overdose, was murdered, or something else. The Captain also told the outlet that investigators continue to search the Tesla for potential digital and video evidence.
Everything we know about Celeste Rivas' demise as LAPD Captain says they are looking into her alleged romance with D4vd:
TMZ has reported that Captain Williams was asked if the Tesla managed to capture the individual(s) who shifted Celeste Rivas' body into the vehicle, but the latter said that the Robbery Homicide Division is still processing all Tesla evidence.
As for the rumor that Celeste's corpse was in the vehicle for weeks, he said that his department is acting on the theory that the body was in the car the entire time it was in the impound lot in Hollywood Hills. However, he emphasised that this has yet to be confirmed.
He told People Magazine this week:
"we know for sure that Celeste Rivas Hernandez died and someone placed her body in the front trunk area of David Burke's [d4vd's legal name] Tesla. We know that the Tesla had been parked at the location from which it was towed for several weeks, so it is very likely Celeste Rivas Hernandez had been dead for several weeks prior to her body being discovered."
He added:
"The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner has not determined a cause or manner of her death, so we don't know for sure if anyone has any criminal culpability for her death beyond the concealment of her dead body."
He also acknowledged speculations that the late teenager was involved in a relationship with the Romantic Homicide singer, 20, noting that investigations into the same are ongoing. However, as of this writing, they are "not pursuing a suspect or person of interest," he clarified to TMZ.
"As far as their relationship, it would be premature for me to say anything," he told People of D4vd. "We are looking into everything."
A new report from the Los Angeles Times states that D4vd's 2023 Tesla had been ticketed 11 days before the teenager's body was discovered. On August 27, his car was marked due to the position of the tires. On September 3, a citation for the car was issued for violating a 72-hour parking ordinance.
Two days later, it was towed to the impound lot, where it was later discovered on September 8 after reports of a foul odor.
ABC7 has reported that Celeste Rivas, a Lake Elsinore resident, was in the seventh grade when she died. She had been reported missing by her family at least three times last year, per the Riverside County Sheriff's Office.
