Cracker Barrel has now rolled back on its initial plans to redesign its decades-long logo into a new minimalist one, mere hours after President Donald Trump weighed in on the issue. According to Politico, the White House has seemingly given credit to Trump for ensuring that Cracker Barrel reverted to its original logo.
According to People Magazine, Taylor Budowich, the White House deputy Chief of Staff, took to X (formerly Twitter) to make this claim, which has not yet been confirmed. He wrote:
"I appreciated the call earlier this evening with @CrackerBarrel. They wanted the President to know that they heard him, along with customer response (the ultimate poll), and would be restoring the Old Timer. So smart! Congrats Cracker Barrel and America!"
More about the controversy involving Cracker Barrel's logo change, as the White House credits Donald Trump for helping the restaurant chain to revert to its original logo
Cracker Barrel has been undergoing rebranding efforts as part of their "All the More Campaign," but it was not until earlier this month that their decision to announce the new logo sparked intense negative reaction from some longtime customers.
The original logo, which shall now be reinstated, featured an old man leaning against a barrel with the words "Old Country Store" written below. On the other hand, the new logo design, which was introduced on August 18, featured neither the image of the old man nor their familiar phrase.
This decision prompted widespread commentary. Rival food chain Steak 'n Shake also weighed in with its opinion. They released a statement saying:
"Sometimes, people want to change things just to put their own personality on things. At CB, their goal is to just delete the personality altogether. Hence, the elimination of the "old-timer" from the signage. Heritage is what got Cracker Barrel this far, and now the CEO wants to just scrape it all away."
The matter took a further political turn when President Trump commented on the logo change. In his statement, released on the Truth Social app, Donald Trump urged the company to return to their original logo, and said:
"Cracker Barrel should go back to the old logo, admit a mistake based on customer response (the ultimate Poll), and manage the company better than ever before. They got a Billion Dollars worth of free publicity if they play their cards right. Very tricky to do, but a great opportunity. Have a major News Conference today. Make Cracker Barrel a WINNER again. Remember, in just a short period of time I made the United States of America the “HOTTEST” Country anywhere in the World. One year ago, it was “DEAD.” Good luck!"
Just a few hours after Trump's statement, the food chain announced that they had listened to the customer feedback and decided to revert to the old logo. They said:
"We thank our guests for sharing your voices and love for Cracker Barrel. We said we would listen, and we have. Our new logo is going away and our 'Old Timer' will remain. At Cracker Barrel, it’s always been – and always will be – about serving up delicious food, warm welcomes, and the kind of country hospitality that feels like family. As a proud American institution, our 70,000 hardworking employees look forward to welcoming you to our table soon."
Donald Trump later released another statement on Truth Social, praising Cracker Barrel for their decision. He wrote:
"All of your fans very much appreciate it. Good luck into the future. Make lots of money and, most importantly, make your customers happy again."
The decision to revert to the original Cracker Barrel logo has been applauded by many, while others have criticized the company for caving to customer pressure.
