Podcaster and influencer Bobbi Althoff’s family friend was detained by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Complex reports. Following that, the podcaster shared a self-recorded video on Instagram, in which she asked President Donald Trump for an interview with her to reportedly discuss immigration policies. She said:

“Alright, President Trump, if you are watching this, please keep watching. I am asking you to please sit down and have an interview with me. I think that perhaps you surround yourself with people who agree with you and maybe you need to hear another perspective.”

She went on:

“And maybe I am not the most educated person to offer that other perspective but I do feel like as someone who grew up very Republican, very conservative, very Christian, and as someone who has a lot of family members, who also, are that way still, I think that we can have a good conversation and perhaps, I can help open your mind to things that you are currently closed to.”

Bobbi Althoff acknowledged that she would have a lot of haters for offering to have the interview with Trump. Despite that, she thought a major issue was that people were unwilling to speak to others with whom they don’t share the same belief system.

Bobbi Althoff on changing one’s beliefs

The podcaster said that she grew up as a Republican and a conservative and continued so till she met her ex-husband. Speaking about how people should be open to new ideas and beliefs, Bobbi Althoff said:

“But for this world to get better, people need to change their mind and open their mind and form new opinions. So, I don't know. I would love an opportunity to try and speak to you and obviously just I don't know I do think people can change. I changed.”

She continued:

“If you had met me when I was 18, it was a completely different person who held completely different views than I did at 21 when I met my ex-husband and he opened my mind and he really did take the time to understand why I held the beliefs I did without looking at me like I was just a horrible person. Even though the beliefs I had, I didn't realize how hurtful they were to so many people.”

Bobbi Althoff added that despite having a mother with a Mexican identity, she harbored certain beliefs at the time that could be deemed hurtful.

What did Bobbi Althoff write about Felix?

On October 2, the podcaster shared an Instagram post in which she wrote about a person named Felix whom she had known from a young age. She wrote:

“Felix is a hardworking, kind human. Felix is no longer being treated like a human. He was not “on a list.” He was not “on their radar.” He was racially profiled at a Home Depot. They went up to a group of people who fit their stereotype and asked for IDs. They took the men who didn’t have ID on them.”

Bobbi Althoff said many people in ICE detention had no criminal record and that arrests of non-criminals had increased a lot across the country. She explained this happened when officers targeted people without IDs instead of having a real reason.

She also said the Fourth Amendment protected everyone from unfair searches and arrests, and even in immigration cases, officers needed a valid reason and approval. Stopping people just because of their race, asking for papers without cause, or detaining them without reason was against the law.
