U.S hip-hop artist Kanye West has launched his own Solana cryptocurrency named Yeezy Money (YZY). On Wednesday, West took to X to announce the launch in a post saying,
"Yeezy Money is here...A new economy, built on chain."
The post also featured an attached image showing what appears to be the address for his cryptocurrency, and a link to a website that allows people to buy, sell, and store the cryptocurrency. As per data extracted from GMGN.Ai analytics platform, the token's market is currently capitalized at around $2 billion.
The cryptocurrency website stated,
"YZY Money is a concept to put you in control, free from centralized authority."
It was further stated:
"YZY is the currency that powers all transactions within YZY Money."
West's cryptocurrency project introduces three integrated components: YZT token as the currency, Ye Pay as a payment processor, and a YZY Card.
"IM NOT DOING A COIN," said Kanye West earlier this year
Kanye West's YZY Money launch comes after the artist, in February 2025, in an X post, clarified that he's "Not doing a coin" after initially teasing the idea. The artist also mentioned that coins "prey on the fans with hype."
"IM NOT DOING A COIN. I ONLY DO THINGS I AM PASSIONATE AND KNOWLEDGEABLE ABOUT...COINS PREY ON THE FANS WITH HYPE."
The rapper had earlier mentioned that he was offered $2 million to launch a memecoin and noted that he was looking to get in touch with Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong on the matter.
"I was proposed 2 million dollars to scam my community. Those left of it. I said no and stopped working with their person who proposed it."
Kanye West had also attached a screenshot of a direct message from an unnamed contact at the time. The artist had earlier sparked controversy with his controversial remarks.
Earlier this year, the rapper had also released a song titled "Heil Hitler." The song ends with an actual snippet of a 1935 Adolf Hitler speech.
After the song was released, streaming platforms including Spotify, Apple Music, SoundCloud, YouTube, and social media platform Reddit removed the song and its reuploads owing to hate speech policies.
Germany banned the song, and Australia canceled his visa. Many businesses that Kanye West once worked with, including Adidas, Gap, Balenciaga, and more, dropped the artist.
