Did Kash Patel walk out mid-interview with Stephen Colbert? Viral claims on YouTube explored

Rumors of Kashyap “Kash” Patel appearing on Stephen Colbert’s late-night talk show have emerged in the past few days.

The videos around the said interaction were also uploaded by YouTube channels like Extra Storytime, Brano Stories, and The WhiteHouse Leaks. Each of the clips narrates a story of the Republican director of the FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation) getting kicked off The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

In contrast to the claims made in the viral videos, the popular political commentator and TV host hasn’t hosted Kash Patel in any of his talk shows' televised episodes. Additionally, there haven’t been any reports of the FBI's director filming for an episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Hence, Kash Patel never walked out during an interview with Colbert.

The former The Daily Show correspondent is well-known for hosting political personalities on his late-night news and talk program. Notable names like Joe Biden, Donald Trump, Bernie Sanders, John Kerry, Ted Cruz, and many others have appeared as guests on Colbert’s show, which was also extensively reported by mainstream media.

Similarly, Kash Patel's appearance on The Late Show would have been subject to media reporting. In the description of most of the videos, readers can find a disclaimer that the featured story is fictional. The clips that don’t have any disclaimer also provide zero evidence of the public fallout between the FBI director and Stephen Colbert. Due to the absence of any credible proof, the AI-generated videos (without a disclaimer) can readily be refuted.

Stephen Colbert called Kash Patel a “True Trump loyalist” ahead of him being appointed as FBI director

The Late Show host has been a vocal critic of the incumbent Republican president for quite some time. After Trump won, the reports of Kash Patel becoming the next director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation started making the rounds. Last year in December, Stephen Colbert was among those who questioned the then-president-elect for his decision to nominate Patel, as he said on his late-night show,

“Trump keeps making some unusual choices for his cabinet. For instance his nominee for FBI director Kash Patel… Seen here [an onscreen picture] about to lose a staring contest with his own reflection. Patel is a true Trump loyalist with very little management or law enforcement experience and judging from what he said on this podcast [Shawn Ryan Show] he's no fan of the FBI.”

Stephen Colbert questioned Trump’s decisions while highlighting how he was the one who appointed Christopher Ray, the FBI director before Patel. The host then played an older video of Kash Patel talking about finding the conspirators in government and media. Colbert responded,

“Oh really? You see me shake Kash? Let me help you remember me, okay? I'm the middle-aged brown haired white guy with an 11:30 Network show and I will never bow down to authoritarians or my name isn't Jimmy something [referring to his counterparts Kimmel and Fallon]. Write it down.”

Colbert’s joke about identifying himself as Jimmy Fallon or Kimmel earned him huge applause and laughs from the crowd.
