While Elon Musk and Donald Trump seem to be in a rift, the Tesla CEO’s father, Errol Musk, recently sat down with Kevin O'Sullivan on TalkTV, where he discussed that Elon once called the President evil during his 70th birthday party.
According to Eroll, on sadi day, Elon Musk brought around 50 Americans to Cape Town to celebrate with him. During the event, someone asked Errol if he supported Donald Trump. When Errol said yes, everyone at the table laughed loudly.
After the laughter, the person asked him why he supported Trump, to which Errol responded that he believed Trump, being a businessman, was more capable than traditional politicians or bureaucrats. Errol Musk recalled:
“And they all laughed their heads off they said "No he's a con man he's a thief he's a crook he's this he's that.”
Errol Musk said that after the party, Elon Musk came over and criticized him for what he had said earlier. He was upset and asked how he could be so foolish, suggesting he should have just said he didn’t know instead of giving a direct answer. Errol Musk recalled:
“Trump is evil.”
Kevin asked:
“They were saying that?”
He replied:
“Yes, they were saying that and well, Elon was saying that. And he's evil and you know, you're also evil to support.”
Errol shared that Elon Musk seemed to be following a similar path to what he himself did in his twenties, being politically active and involved in efforts to improve the country. He noted that Elon had changed his views over time.
What did Errol Musk say about Elon Musk and Trump’s rift?
Kevin O'Sullivan asked how things had come full circle, and Errol Musk responded by saying that after experiencing the Biden presidency, people began to realize that some in power seemed to be working against the core values of the U.S., including harming their businesses.
When Kevin asked about Elon Musk’s political views, Errol explained that while Elon wasn’t a fan of apartheid and thought it was unfair, he also strongly supported law, order, and maintaining a civilized society.
Errol described Elon as politically centrist, much like himself. He added that he leaned slightly conservative, believing that before dismantling something like a factory, one should first have a proper replacement ready.
When Kevin asked about rumors suggesting Elon was focusing full-time on Tesla again and that his connection with Donald Trump had weakened, Errol Musk dismissed those claims. He said there was no issue between Elon and Trump.
He also addressed the talk about Tesla, saying the company hadn’t suffered, but its stock price had gone up by about 70% compared to the same time the previous year. He added that such a sharp rise might even raise questions from regulators.
Kevin brought up that he had read Elon Musk might be on the spectrum and possibly had Asperger's, and asked if Errol noticed anything when Elon was younger.
Errol Musk admitted he wasn’t sure what Asperger's was, but understood it to mean focusing intensely on one thing while ignoring everything else. He said that seemed accurate for Elon Musk and added that it ran in the family.
