The FBI is reportedly offering a reward of up to $100,000 for any pertinent information related to the assassination of Charlie Kirk.
The conservative activist was gunned down during an event at Utah Valley University on Wednesday, September 11. According to the BBC, the FBI in Salt Lake City has now released images of a "person of interest" related to the shooting and is enlisting the public's help in identifying what looks to be a man.
In these images, the individual can be seen sporting an all-black ensemble, with sunglasses and a matching cap. Per the outlet, the killer is still at large, though a high-powered rifle has been recovered from the woods nearby, alongside a "footwear impression" and a "forearm imprint."
Channel News Asia has reported that the US federal agents and police officers believe that the bolt-action rifle is being treated as the murder weapon.
The latest developments in the shooting of Charlie Kirk explored: Everything we know so far
Charlie Kirk, 31, was fatally shot in the neck in front of a large crowd on campus. Known as the founder of Turning Point USA and a close confidant of the president, his wife and two children witnessed the incident from the audience. He was largely credited with influencing young voters in favor of the Republican Party.
Videos of the incident have been doing the rounds online, where Kirk could be seen addressing the crowd as part of the "Prove Me Wrong" event, which had reportedly 3,000 people in attendance.
Per The Independent, DPS Commissioner Beau Mason confirmed that the shooter, who is reportedly a college student, showed up on campus shortly before 12 p.m., before he scaled a nearby rooftop for the shooting. He then absconded into a nearby neighbourhood in Orem, Utah.
As of this writing, all evidence collected is reportedly being analyzed by forensic law enforcement at the federal lab. The motive of the shooter is also unclear.
President Trump has since announced that he would be honoring Charlie Kirk posthumously with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, which is the highest badge of honor for a civilian in the nation.
"We miss him greatly," Trump told his audience earlier today. "Yet I have no doubt that Charlie's voice and the courage that he put into the hearts of countless people, especially young people, will live on." He went on, "I can only guarantee you one thing - that we will have a very big crowd. Very, very big."
Vice President JD Vance said that he and his wife, Usha, were expected to visit Charlie Kirk's wife and kids in Salt Lake City.
