According to Business Insider, Neal Mohan, the current CEO of YouTube, who was appointed to the position back in 2023, recently released a memo for employees of the company. Although Mohan has assured that employees are not going to be laid off as of now, the company is offering a Voluntary Exit Program to its US based staff. He wrote:

"Looking to the future, the next frontier for YouTube is AI, which has the potential to transform every part of the platform. We need to set ourselves up to make the most of this opportunity. But we also understand some of you may be ready for a new challenge, so we've decided now is the right time to offer a Voluntary Exit Program,"

YouTube is also undergoing major reorganization efforts that will see the company be divided into "three separate product organizations." According to Business Insider, the first one is Viewer products, a department that will focus on viewer experience and on "increasing engagement" with YouTube audiences.

The second department is Creator and Community Products, which will focus on "driving creation through GenAI tools, Shorts, Live, and supporting creators of all sizes." At the moment, the company is searching for someone to lead the team. The third department is Subscription Products. A part of the statement released by YouTube explained what this team will particularly focus on "driving our subscriptions growth across Music & Premium and OTT to take advantage of the tremendous opportunity in this space."

The new AI feature will upgrade the all low-quality videos on YouTube and convert them to 1080p. Moreover, it will also ensure that all videos are upgraded from SD to HD and that the thumbnails are also enhanced to 4k resolution.

This new move has garnered a ton of reactions on X (formerly Twitter) from YouTube users, with this person writing:

"I rather watch a video in 160p than watching something with AI."

This user wrote:

"They really forcing AI for anything at this point 😭"

Another added:

"Finally my 2009 webcam videos can look like they were shot on a potato in HD."
"No thank you I prefer my videos shitty and blurry." added another.

This new AI upgrade is aldready in place, with changes set to take effect in the coming weeks.
