GTA 5 has reportedly set a new sales record after its 5 million new copies were sold in 2025. Take-Two Interactive, parent company of Rockstar Games, released its quarterly earnings report on May 18, 2025 and confirmed the new record.

The report says 215 million units have been sold to date. Twelve years since its launch, the fifth version of the videogame has received unprecedented success, and the numbers don't appear to slow down.

Dexerto took to its X channel to share the achievement. This follows Take-Two's previous announcement in February 2025 that the game had sold "210 million units." According to Game Rant, approximately 1.5 million copies are sold every month of the 5th edition. While the launch of GTA 6 has been pushed to May 26, 2026, the fifth edition continues to add heavily to the annual revenue.

GTA 5's sales have reportedly jumped from 210 million in February 2025 to May 2025. Its sales are only third on the list of most sold games and follow Minecraft (2) and Tetris (1). According to Take-Two Interactive's quarterly earnings report, GTA 5 is:

reportedly the "best-selling title of the past 10 years in the U.S based on both unit and dollar sales."

Following GTA 5's success, fans and users have raised questions about whether the sixth edition would be able to match its predecessor. While the 6th version has not been released, its trailer is already breaking records. According to the report, the game's second trailer's "cross-platform debut is the biggest video launch of all time, with over 475 million views within 24 hours."

Recently, Take-Two's CEO, Strauss Zelnick, appeared on CNBC News on May 16 and talked about the new game. When asked about the delay, Strauss described it as:

"A pretty short delay, it's less than 6 months."

He added,

"But the key thing is that Rockstar Games is trying to create the best thing anyone's ever seen in entertainment, not just interactive entertainment."

He explained that consumers have "huge hopes for the title" and noted,

"The delay is a reflection of the desire to polish and create the best possible experience for consumers."

While fans await the release of GTA 6, the sales of the fifth version continue to soar. In other news, Rockstar Games is set to launch other games, including Mafia: The Old Country on August 8, 2025, and Borderlands 4 on September 12, 2025.
