Euphoria star Sydney Sweeney has been in the news for her recently released American Eagle ad campaign.
The 27-year-old actress, whose thriller drama film Echo Valley hit the big screens on June 6, 2025, starred in the renowned apparel brand American Eagle's ad campaign. The ad has stirred controversy for allegedly promoting white supremacist propaganda.
While the internet continues to debate whether American Eagle was promoting controversial ideas through its Sydney Sweeney ad campaign, a statement of apology from the brand has been floating across social media platforms.
However, the statement is fake as the Pittsburgh-based apparel brand, American Eagle, has not apologized for its Sydney Sweeney ad campaign, nor have they released any official statement regarding it.
The apology that is floating across various social media platforms is just a joke, which many people took as an official statement from American Eagle. The fake statement of apology was shared on Facebook by a content creator named Karim Jovian, who has 2.5 million followers.
The fake statement of apology read:
"To Whom It May Concern, we sincerely apologize for featuring Sydney Sweeney in our recent advertisement. In hindsight, we underestimated the combined impact of her blue eyes, blonde hair, and general hotness. Also, we did not realize how big her boobs would be. Our marketing team has been sent to denim sensitivity training. Thank you for your feedback. Please stop emailing us. (We’re still trying to recover from the group chat fallout.)"

There has been no response from American Eagle regarding the backlash to its Sydney Sweeney ad campaign

For those unaware, American Eagle released three short ads starring Sydney Sweeney.
In one of the ads, the Anyone But You actress was seen fixing a car with a voiceover in the background that said, "Sydney Sweeney has great jeans." In another ad, Sweeney talks about how the American Eagle jeans are comfortable and how "they make your bu*t look amazing." It was the third ad that sparked the entire controversy, in which Sweeney says:
"Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair color, personality, and even eye color. My jeans are blue.”
Now, the netizens are debating whether it was just a simple wordplay or the brand was trying to promote eugenics.
While American Eagle has not released any official statement of apology regarding its Sydney Sweeney ad campaign, it has also not responded in any way to the backlash. Sources that have direct information regarding the ad campaign revealed that the company isn't concerned about the controversy, as per TMZ.
The source informed TMZ:
"This is yet another example of how social media is just not reflective of real life. The absurd response from some corners of the internet is absolutely not reflective of how American Eagle’s customers feel. The bottom line is that this was about creating a great pair of jeans and supporting a very worthy cause through some of the proceeds going to domestic violence prevention. Anything beyond that is noise that is not registering with the average person."
