Senator John Fetterman has reportedly suffered a devastating fall in the early hours of Thursday.TMZ broke the news that the Pennsylvania politician was rushed to a hospital in Pittsburgh after he "sustained a fall near his home" while on a walk, leaving his face with injuries. In a statement on his official X account, John Fetterman's spokesperson said on his behalf:"During an early morning walk, Senator Fetterman sustained a fall near his home in Braddock. Out of an abundance of caution, he was transported to a hospital in Pittsburgh. Upon evaluation, it was established he had a ventricular fibrillation flare-up that led to Senator Fetterman feeling light-headed, falling to the ground and hitting his face with minor injuries."It goes on,"Senator Fetterman had this to say: ‘If you thought my face looked bad before, wait until you see it now!’ He is doing well and receiving routine observation at the hospital. He has opted to stay so doctors can fine-tune his medication regimen. Senator Fetterman is grateful for the EMTs, doctors, and nurses who are providing his care."Senator John Fetterman's medical history explored: The American Heart Association describes ventricular fibrillation as an abnormal heart rhythm. It can be highly dangerous and can culminate in sudden cardiac death. If not treated properly, it can be fatal within minutes. However, ABC News has reported that healthcare professionals do not use the “ventricular fibrillation flare-up” as it is life-threatening. Ventricular fibrillation usually necessitates shock therapy, either with the use of an automated external defibrillator or a defibrillation device in the chest that has been previously implanted. Senator John Fetterman was struck with a stroke back in May 2022, during the Democratic primary for the state's open Senate seat. Despite his ailment at the time, he won the Democratic nomination as he went on to defeat Dr. Mehmet Oz, who is now President Donald Trump's Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services administrator. "I had a stroke that was caused by a clot from my heart being in an A-fib rhythm for too long," Fetterman said in a statement at the time. As reported by Local 21, the senator's memoir, which dropped this week, also outlined his experiences with clinical depression following his win in the general election as a senator in Washington, D.C. John Fetterman recently made a comeback to Pennsylvania after voting to reopen the government earlier this week, following what was the longest shutdown in the history of the nation.
