Pop culture icon and Colombian songstress Shakira recently sat down with Variety for a candid and insightful interview. The “Queen of Latin music” touched on many subjects from the upcoming Super Bowl halftime show to her future plans and everything in between.
Among the topics discussed, one of the most interesting arose when Shakira was asked about her trailblazing “Oral Fixation” record which was released as a two-part set in 2006. The interviewer asked which current artist she thought would best fit on her second English-language album and Shakira was straight to the point with her response,
“I would love to hear Chappell Roan on “La Pared.” I think she would do an incredible rendition. Her voice and her artistry are incredible.”
While the two artists have yet to collaborate, there certainly is still time. As of this reporting, there is still no word from Chappell Roan or her camp regarding Shakira’s high praises.

Shakira speaks on Super Bowl halftime show, more
After having mentioned Chappell Roan as a dream collaborator and kindred musical spirit, Shakira was then asked about her reaction to the news that fellow Latin American artist Bad Bunny will be headlining the upcoming Super Bowl halftime show.
“It’s about time! I remember when we did ours that even having part of our set in Spanish was a bold move… Acceptance of Spanish-language music as part of the mainstream has come so far from when I started. I hope and like to think that all the times my music was met with resistance or puzzlement from the English-speaking world before it was embraced, helped forge the path to where we are now.”
Shakira then went on to say,
“And I’m so proud that Bad Bunny, who represents not only Latin culture but also how important Spanish language music has become on a global scale and how universal it has become, is getting to perform on the biggest stage in the world. It’s the perfect moment for a performance like this. I can’t wait to watch it.”
Interestingly, Bad Bunny was on stage with Shakira 6 years prior when she was the featured act at the Super Bowl creating a full circle moment for the two. Super Bowl LX will take place at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California on Sunday, Feb. 8 2026.
