According to Adin Ross, the key concern was the ownership requirements of the parent company of FaZe Clan, GameSquare. He alleged that the company requested creators to forgo 20 percent equity many years after they had become successful. Ross believes that this was a request that was years too late.

He claimed that creators such as FaZe Rug turned down the offer as it failed to recognize their initial efforts. According to Ross, creators would have bargained in other ways had such terms been presented initially. He emphasized that the conflict was regarding money and contracts.
