MAX has yet again changed its name, and it's HBO Max.

Warner Bros has yet again changed the branding of their streaming site Max, and this time they decided to learn from the past and take a step back. Max was previously HBO Max until the media conglomerate decided to drop the "HBO" two years ago. However, they have made the decision to add it back and renaming the streaming platform HBO Max again.

In a statement, Casey Bloys, chairman and CEO of HBO and Max content, stated, "With the course we are on and strong momentum we are enjoying, we believe HBO Max far better represents our current consumer proposition. And it clearly states our implicit promise to deliver content that is recognized as unique and, to steal a line we always said at HBO, worth paying for."
In another press release, WBD said “returning the HBO brand into HBO Max will further drive the service forward and amplify the uniqueness that subscribers can expect from the offering. It is also a testament to WBD’s willingness to keep boldly iterating its strategy and approach — leaning heavily on consumer data and insights — to best position itself for success.”

The site has had quite a history of changing its branding. HBO launched "HBO Go" in 2010 as a content streaming site. In 2014, they changed the name to "HBO Now" and rebranded it as a subscription streaming service. During the pandemic, in 2020, the first added "Max" to the title; however, 3 years later, they decided to drop the "HBO" and continue on as "Max."

But it wasn't for no reason, as HBO made this decision for the reason as simple as the fact that HBO has history, assurance, and prestige behind it for decades, representing trust to the users.

“The powerful growth we have seen in our global streaming service is built around the quality of our programming,” Warner Bros’ CEO David Zaslav explained. “Today, we are bringing back HBO, the brand that represents the highest quality in media, to further accelerate that growth in the years ahead.”

Fans react to HBO Myet again changing their branding

Most users agreed with this decision, stating that there was no need to do this from the beginning.

One user expressed, "No brainer. No one called it max. I also appreciate they went back to the grey/black color scheme."
Another joked, "millions of dollars spent to end up right where they started."
"I never stopped calling it HBO Max anyway. Was just easier so I wouldn’t have to explain." a netizen also stated.
While one user reasoned, "HBO Max just sounds better and is more descriptive. Calling it just Max I'd have no clue what you're talking about in a causal setting."

And the internet did what it does best and released a slew of memes to talk about this laughable incident.

But that's not all, as WBD didn't just change the name of MAX, but they are also planning to re-launch a streaming service for CNN.
