Former football player and TV host Michael Strahan had a pet pig in his childhood. However, the animal's fate was unexpected, as understood by what host Sara Haines said on The Weekend View on May 24, 2025.

As host Joy Behar discussed Mariska Hargitay’s recent secret about her biological father, followed by the other panellists, Haines chimed in, saying she wanted to share Strahan’s family secret. She said:

“I went to shoot with his parents before his father died because I wanted to give him ‘How do you give a gift to Michael Strahan?’ And I wanted to give him time with his parents as one of five children where they just talked about him and we are talking about him and I find out he had a pig when he was little, a pet pig. So, they shared with me that they ate the pig.”

After returning from the shoot, Sara Haines shared the news with Strahan, saying she gave him a hard time. She joked about the pig, and he was shocked because he did not know about the pet pig’s fate. Haines said:

“He didn’t know cause they were all young but something had happened and they ended up not being able to keep.”

She said Michael Strahan then called his mother. Despite revealing the secret, she thought Strahan knew, Haines said she didn't mean to betray the family’s trust. Strahan’s father lost his life in 2020.

Michael Strahan on the conversation with his father about football

In 2018, Strahan sat down with Graham Bensinger, discussing the Super Bowl championship. When Bensinger asked the former footballer about the conversation he had with his father, he said:

“…Was weird because I don’t cry it much but whenever there the story of in sports or like some any type of story where you make your parents or you make somebody proud of you for didn't those get me and I will never forget watching the movie Babe and the pig wins the show.”

Michael Strahan shared that when he considered retiring from football, he thought his dad might try to talk him out of it. He had pursued his career mostly because his father believed in him and encouraged him every step of the way.

When he finally spoke to his dad about retiring, his dad told him he had nothing left to prove. That support made Michael Strahan feel emotional, like he had truly made his father proud and could now close that chapter of his life. In January 2025, he shared a heartfelt birthday post for his mother on Instagram, writing:

“Happy Birthday to my favorite person….The funny, smart and witty Louise Strahan!! Mom i love you and hope you have the best day ever! I’m lucky to have you as my mom and love you endlessly! Your baby boy Michael”

In 2024, Michael Strahan was by his daughter Isabella’s side as she went through treatment for medulloblastoma, a serious form of brain cancer. He remembered how hard it was to watch her lose weight, feel constantly exhausted, and lose her hair.
