Nihal Candan, a well-known social media figure, died at age 30. She was recently released from prison after being arrested on fraud charges. During her time behind bars, she grew very thin. Doctors said she had anorexia nervosa, which is an eating disorder where a person refuses to eat and loses too much weight.

At first, she weighed around 37 kilograms when she left prison. But her health got worse at home. She had to go back to the hospital. Her weight fell again, to just 29 kilograms. Her family and friends pleaded for help. They said she refused care, even though her heart stopped twice. These strong facts show how serious her health crisis became.

Nihal Candan's weight loss and health decline

Nihal Candan was first arrested in November 2023. She and her sister were accused of fraud and money laundering. She stopped eating out of fear of gaining weight, and doctors diagnosed her with anorexia nervosa. At that point, her weight dropped to about 37 kg. She was released from prison in April 2024 because of her health. After release, she tried to recover. But her health became worse again. In June 2025, she fell ill and went back to the hospital. Her weight dropped to just 29 kg — dangerously low for someone her age and height.

Friends and family shared that she was in the ICU. Her organs were failing, and her heart stopped two times but was revived by doctors. The extent of her weight loss shocked even close friends. Modacı Pınar Kerimoğlu said she even fed Nihal Candan by hand during a hospital visit. Her sister, Bahar, posted many pleas. She said Nihal refused treatment and talked of wanting to die. She warned others to stay away from her sister and asked for support. Their mother also urged people to be gentle with Nihal, saying she only drank soda and coffee.

Nihal Candan's Anorexia and final days

Anorexia nervosa is a mental health disorder. People with this illness eat very little because they fear gaining weight. This leads to weakness, organ problems, and sometimes death. In Nihal Candan’s case, she had severe organ failure. She was rushed to the ICU more than once. People close to her said she did not want help. She said she preferred death to living. In a live talk, she said:

“If you ask me life or death, I choose death.”

By mid-June 2025, her health was so critical that her friends said she needed a guardian to make medical choices. People held their breath and hoped that she would fight through. But sadly, around her 30th birthday, she passed away. Reports confirmed she died from complications linked to anorexia nervosa. She is now listed among those who died from this eating disorder.
