How old is Toosii? Rapper says he's putting music career on hold to play football at Syracuse 

Upcoming hip-hop star Toosii rose to prominence when his record “Favorite Song” went viral on TikTok in 2023. In the time since, the 25-year-old rapper has solidified a substantial audience with 3.9 million monthly listeners on Spotify alone.

In the most recent news about the rapper, Toosii has announced that he has committed to the University of Syracuse, where he will be joining the school’s football program. Interestingly, Toosii (born Nau’jour Grainger) initially revealed his plans to focus on football in the summertime, and has since wrapped his stint on artist YoungBoy Never Broke Again’s North America arena tour, freeing up his schedule.

Toosii shared the news with his fans in a post he shared via all of his official social media accounts. It featured an image of him in the Syracuse uniform alongside the following caption,

“COMMITTED 🙏🏽 For every kid who ever had a dream, make it reality. God’s will is the way and no one can stop it not even the devil. I wanna thank my lord and savior Jesus Christ for even giving me the strength to chase what I believed when so many people told me I couldn’t.“

The rapper went on to add,

“Thank you to the people who supported me as well, it never go unnoticed. To be born in Syracuse and move to North Carolina at age 12 and haven’t been back since. When Coach Fran called, I knew it was a sign from God. So with that being said, Cuse I’m coming home 🍊 #COMMITTED #315baby #AGTG”

Prior to settling on Syracuse, there were other programs in contention before Toosii made his final decision. According to Billboard, he also fielded offers from Sacramento State, North Carolina State University, and Duke.

Toosii - Football future, career at a glance

It is important to note that Toosii has earned his spot in the Syracuse football program on his merit rather than his cachet. Nau’jour Grainger was a standout high school wide receiver during his time at Rolesville High School in North Carolina. As per Sports Illustrated, he is currently listed at 5 feet 8 and 165 pounds, which would place him at a decided size advantage over many of his fellow competitors.

As for his musical journey, Toosii released his first studio album, Poetic Pain, in 2020. His follow-up album Naujour is the project that ultimately made the most waves for the rapper, as it featured “Favorite Song”, his viral hit. The record reached its peak at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100, earning double platinum certification status as a result.
