Conservative political commentator Candace Owens is reacting to a post that claimed that Brigitte Macron was listed as "Male" on the official French tax website.
In February this year, the former Daily Wire host made a dedicated series titled Becoming Brigitte, in which she claimed that Brigitte Macron was born a man. Months later, the French President and the first lady of France filed a defamation lawsuit against the YouTuber in July.
On October 25, Caliber reported that Brigitte Macron was mistakenly registered as male under the name "Jean-Michel" on the French tax website. The report comes from a BFMTV documentary on the First Lady of France. In the documentary, the head of the First Lady’s administration, Tristan Bommé, shared an incident from September last year.
Bommé revealed that during a routine audit of Mrs. Macron's tax records, it was found that "Jean-Michel" was written in place of her real name and her gender as male. He noted that it happened due to an external intervention. The First Lady also filed an official complaint against this.
On Saturday, an X account shared the news. Candace Owens reacted to the post and alleged that the Presidential office cooked up a theory of tampering and wrote,
"The excuse the Elysees Palace has concocted is they suspect her account may have been hacked—yet they confess it’s impossible to modify account names so they are unsure how such a hack might have occurred... I’m honestly so sick of this dude."
More about the ongoing lawsuit between Candace Owens and Brigitte Macron
Candace Owens has been targeting the French President and his wife in many of her videos. She has often made controversial claims about the two for months. In May 2024, she made a tweet in which she wrote,
"I would stake my entire professional reputation on the fact that Brigitte Macron is in fact a man."
In February, she released a whole video series wherein she made multiple unverified allegations against the first couple of France. In July, Emmanuel Macron and Brigitte Macron filed a defamation lawsuit against Candace Owens in a US court. Last month, Tom Clare, the lawyer representing the Macrons, appeared on the BBC's Fame Under Fire podcast and stated that Brigitte Macron would be providing evidence of being born as a woman.
"We're going to have the testimony of the two plaintiffs, President and Mrs. Macron. There will be expert testimony that will come out that will be scientific in nature that will also demonstrate the falsity of the statements... Not ready to reveal all of our strategy as it relates to presenting expert testimony, but I would just say that it will you know, we're prepared to demonstrate fully both generically and specifically that what she's saying about Brigitte Macron is false," Clare said.
Before suing Candace Owens, the first couple of France had earlier sued Amandine Roy and Natacha Rey, who made similar claims in 2022. In September last year, both Roy and Rey were fined by the court.
