Influencer Ella Halikas claims 'Christy' is allegedly failing at box office because Sydney Sweeney is not "showing skin" 

Sydney Sweeney is currently facing tremendous backlash on multiple fronts. The latest public figure to voice a strong opinion about the actress is TikTok influencer and model Ella Halikas, whose most recent comments about Sweeney have since gone viral.

Halikas recently spoke with TMZ and addressed the reason why she felt Sydney Sweeney’s latest film, Christy, had a rough opening weekend at the box office. In her opinion, the film is not connecting with audiences because they are used to seeing Sweeney in a highly sexualised manner and typically undressed, which is a significant departure from how she is portrayed as boxer Christy Martin.

It remains to be seen if Ella Halikas’ reasoning on the topic is valid, as other controversial moves might actually be the reason Sweeney’s approval rate has currently taken a hit.

Despite its poor opening week showing, Sydney Sweeney remains fiercely proud and protective of her work on the film. In fact, Sweeney posted on Instagram on November 11 discussing her views on her work on the film as well as the power of its overall message.

“I am so deeply proud of this movie. proud of the film david made. proud of the story we told. proud to represent someone as strong and resilient as Christy Martin. this experience has been one of the greatest honors of my life. this film stands for survival, courage, and hope.

Sweeney went on to address the response to the film and why its overall profits aren't the only way to deem it a success.

“so yes I’m proud. why? because we don’t always just make art for numbers, we make it for impact. and christy has been the most impactful project of my life. thank you christy. i love you.”

It seems as though Sweeney is happy with the film and undeterred by any form of negativity surrounding its release. This approach bodes well for the actress who remains under fire for her recent American Eagle ad.

In the latest update on that front, the noise continues to grow regarding Sydney Sweeney's involvement with the controversial campaign, a matter only further fueled by her political perspective. It has now gotten to the point where celebrities have gotten praise (SZA, Christina Ricci, Aime Lou Wood) for liking a post disparaging Sweeney's participation in the campaign, and could provide a more reasonable reason why audiences aren't rushing to see her latest offering in the theaters.
