On August 26, Cardi B took the stand in a civil trial in which she's been accused of assaulting a security guard inside a Beverly Hills medical building in 2018. According to a report in Complex, during the civil trial, the plaintiff's lawyer, Ron Rosen, asked Cardi if her hair was real,

"Yesterday, you had black hair, short hair. Today it's blond and long. Which one is your real hair, or are they both real?"

Cardi looked surprised at the question and laughed before responding,

"They're both wigs."

Inside Cardi B's trial against a security guard

Cardi B's trial began on August 25 in Alhambra, California. The artist is accused of attacking a security guard, Emani Ellis, at an OB-GYN office in February 2018.

Ellis has also accused the rapper of assault, battery, and infliction of emotional distress in a lawsuit filed in 2020.

In the 2020 lawsuit, Ellis had claimed that the rapper "violently, unlawfully, intentionally, suddenly and maliciously" hit her head, face, and body. Ellis also claimed that Cardi spat on her and used multiple profanities and racial slurs.

Ellis took the stand on Monday to explain her side of the story. She testified that she saw Cardi coming out of an elevator and commented aloud, "Wow, that's Cardi B", upon which Cardi allegedly got hostile and confronted her by telling, "Why the f**k you telling people you seen me?" As per Ellis, Cardi then said,

"She was like, 'F**k you, you fat a**, I'm gonna beat your a**. I'm gonna get you fired. That's why you do security."

Ellis described the incident as "traumatizing" and alleged that she underwent some plastic surgery to fix the cut on her face. She also testified that Cardi's nails at the time were about two to three inches long.

Cardi B says she "never" touched Emani Ellis

The rapper denied the claims and said that Ellis tried to record her without consent. The artist entered the courthouse on Day 2 of the trial on August 26 and dismissed claims in front of the media, saying she "never" touched Ellis.

At the time of the incident in 2018, the rapper was approximately four months pregnant with her first child and was reportedly keeping the news of her pregnancy private. Cardi's attorney, Peter J. Anderson, noted that since it was the rapper's first pregnancy, she was "utterly confused that a security guard could be her attacker" when she allegedly saw "a very large woman advancing towards her."

Cardi's attorneys maintain that there was no physical contact between the two women during the incident. Ellis, in her lawsuit, seeks medical expenses, damages for loss of past and future earnings, punitive damages, and a civil penalty of $25,000.
