Newsweek reported that her status is that of an "active voter" per public records available dated June 14, 2024.
The Guardian reported that Sweeney was earlier caught in a controversy in 2022 when she was spotted during her mother's birthday party, with guests wearing MAGA caps. While the actress clarified that it was "an innocent celebration", the actress was reportedly criticised by netizens.

More recently, POTUS has also revealed support for the Euphoria actress. During a Sunday interview, he was asked about his views on Sweeney's political affiliation. He responded,
“That’s what I wouldn’t have known, but I’m glad you told me that. If Sydney Sweeney is a registered Republican, I think her ad is fantastic."
Sweeney has reportedly responded to the mass criticism hurled at her recent advertisement. Amid her emphasis on the ad being about "jeans", netizens were quick to pick on her political affiliations.
