Justin Bieber has landed in hot water again, this time because of a remark he left on 17-year-old actress Ariana Greenblatt's latest Instagram update. The pop star's short comment has caused a split reaction on social media, with people arguing about whether his interaction with the young actress was okay.

Ariana Greenblatt, who's made a name for herself in Barbie and the Fear Street series, posted some pictures from the premiere of Fear Street: Prom Queen, her newest Netflix project. She wore a black sequin mini dress and shared how pumped she was about the movie coming out and how much she loves scary films.

Thousands of fans and other celebrities left comments, but one message stood out: a simple "I love youuuuuuuu" from Bieber. People could see Bieber's comment as backing or praising Greenblatt's acting. But many were quick to call out the age gap between them. At 31, Bieber is 14 years older than Greenblatt. A lot of folks online thought his warm-toned remark wasn't okay, given how young Greenblatt is.

Some people who commented raised questions about how they relate to each other. This happened because Bieber started to follow Ariana Greenblatt near the end of 2023. At the same time, she worked as a model for Rhode, a skincare company that his wife, Hailey Bieber, owns. Even though they worked together, it didn't stop critics.

"It's giving pedo," an Instagram user commented on Justin Bieber's comment.

"He definitely has a type....She looks like the Selina Gomez....," an X user commented.
"Next target for Hailey," another wrote.
"So he can’t be appreciative towards his fan? Selena fan should be more worried about their favs fiancé spending thousands on a of model instead of this," another reacted.
"How is it sympathetic?" another user wrote.
"some people are already starting unnecessary drama. justin writes stuff like that on multiple friends’s accounts. yall just have a weird mentality nowadays where yall cancel people over nothing. people cant even be friends now and show support to each other smh," another commented.

Many users on Reddit said that no matter the situation, when a famous adult man makes such remarks about a teenage girl, people can take it the wrong way. The angry response shows that people are still talking about limits between adult stars and young people in the spotlight. Critics said they worry that people might think Bieber's comment was flirty even if he didn't mean it that way.

Some others said this fits a pattern where Bieber says or does things that cause trouble and make people upset. Still, not everyone saw eye to eye with the backlash.

A few supporters stood up for Bieber, saying his remark was innocent and just a friendly message to a young actress he might have a personal or work relationship with. They brought up how social media tends to blow things out of proportion and that saying "I love you" can mean different things - it could be platonic or a way to show appreciation for someone's acting skills.

Whether the intent behind Bieber’s comment on Ariana Greenblatt's post was innocent or misplaced, the response it provoked is huge and controversial.
