Megyn Kelly has taken issue with Serena Williams' decision to slam a cotton plant decoration at a hotel in New York.

The podcaster was reacting to a recent video of the tennis star on her latest episode of The Megyn Kelly Show, where the latter was seen slamming the hotel for using cotton as decoration. In another clip, Williams could be seen using a piece of cotton to buff her nails.

According to Megyn, however, it was nothing more than just decoration:

"Serena Williams, who is one of the richest Americans alive, was ... triggered by cotton I guess because it used to be picked by slaves and she's a black American? It's 2025. Serena Williams is estimated by Forbes to be worth $350 million."

She continued,

"She's married to a very, very rich man too. She hung up her racket in 2022, ending a career where she earned $95 million in prize money, more prize money than any female athlete in history. She has endorsement deals to this day, with more than a dozen brands. She's active as an investor in her own venture capital firm. She's got a licensing deal with a beauty line, she's launched a multimedia company, she owns part of the Miami Dolphins, but she is an oppressed direct descendant of slaves, I guess, and that's how she sees herself to this day, because I get generational trauma, I guess, as the kids call it."

Megyn Kelly claimed that the tennis star could no walk by a cotton plant decoration "without feeling trauma that she has to videotape and post on [Instagram]." As of this writing, Serena Williams has yet to respond to Kelly's criticism.

Serena Williams' art decor explored as she slams a New York Hotel for its cotton plant:

As reported by Page Six, Serena Williams took to Instagram Stories this week to share a video of herself at an unknown hotel in Manhattan. She shared a video of a cotton plant nestled over a table in the entryway of the lobby.

“How do we feel about cotton as decoration?” she asked her followers, panning to the arrangement. “Personally, for me, it doesn’t feel great.” After plucking it and buffing her nails, she remarked that “it feels like nail polish remover cotton.”

The mother of two was in New York at the time to support Kim Kardashian for her latest business venture, NikeSKIMS, the promo video of which she was featured in.

Per the outlet, the legendary tennis player owns a cotton art piece in her Florida home, which she shares with her husband and father of her two kids, Alexis Ohanian. The sculpture, called "Monument for a Promise,” was designed by Radcliffe Bailey, and it features a donkey hauling a trunk as it stands atop a mound of cotton.

During a February 2021 profile for Architectural Digest, Williams reflected on its meaning and her decision to display the sculpture in her foyer and sitting room:

“When you walk in, it’s like walking into an art gallery,” she said at the time. “That’s my favorite part of the house. It’s so unique. I’ve never seen anything like it.”
