Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez's legal struggles with her brother continue to intensify as reports emerge that the billionaire couple is seeking $190K in damages.
Page Six has reported that the newlyweds, who tied the knot in a lavish ceremony in Italy recently, have been engulfed in an ongoing legal battle with Michael Sanchez. They reportedly filed a motion on July 28 in the California Superior Court for Michael to shell out $182,374 in attorney’s fees and $8,182 in legal costs, which are
“incurred in connection with (1) her successful Special Motion to Strike, and (2) this Motion for Attorney’s Fees and Costs.”
The pair's lawyers have referred to the battle as a “multi-year campaign of harassment in the hope he could extract a wholly undeserved financial settlement.”
On the heels of their three-day wedding worth reportedly $55 million, Lauren Sanchez and Jeff Bezos claim that the restitution is deserved as part of their Anti-SLAPP (Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation) cases, which were a response to the latter's brother's filing, which was “frivolous” and "dead on arrival.”
Everything we know about Michael Sanchez's legal struggles with Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez
For the unversed, the struggles began in February 2019, when Jeff Bezos' affair with Sanchez broke out. At the time, explicit photographs of the former broke out, and speculations blamed Michael for it. However, he denied the rumors during an interview with Variety.
“I had nothing to do with leak of the d*ck pics. That’s the important thing,” he said. “I never had access. It’s clear they were sent to others. There are, like, 20 d*ck pics. Lauren likely shared them with multiple girlfriends — not in a malicious way, that’s not her style; but when she’s in love, she got a kick out of sharing them. One time she tried to show me one and I was like, ‘What the f*ck is wrong with you? I don’t want to see that!'”
The talent manager and publicist also told the outlet at the time that he “loves Jeff" and wants his romance with his sister to work out. By January 2023, things took a turn when The New York Post reported that it was Michael Sanchez who sold the photos to the National Enquirer, the outlet that published the photos, for $200,000 after all.
“Mr. Sanchez and American Media executed a nondisclosure agreement,” on Oct. 18, 2018, “concerning certain information, photographs and text messages documenting an affair between Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez,” the outlet reported.
In February 2020, Michael Sanchez sued Bezos for defamation, and by November that year, court proceedings ended in favor of Bezos. The following year, the latter won $218,385 in legal fees, but he has been going back and forth with Michael since then.
