Ghislaine Maxwell is reportedly attempting to shorten her stay in federal prison. Maxwell, a co-conspirator of the infamous Jeffrey Epstein, was sentenced to 20 years behind bars for sex trafficking in 2021.
Now, as per an official Supreme Court petition obtained by PEOPLE, Maxwell’s attorneys argue that she deserved immunity based on an agreement Epstein and his legal team had forged with federal prosecutors in 2008.
According to her legal team, the agreement stipulates,
“The United States also agrees that it will not institute any criminal charges against any potential co-conspirators of Epstein."
Ghislaine Maxwell’s lawyers argue that she should be protected by his agreement and, further, it should be grounds for her immediate release. The decision is now in the hands of the Supreme Court, and talks of a potential pardon are already reported to be on the table.

Ghislaine Maxwell - Epstein involvement, current status
Ghislaine Maxwell was a wealthy English socialite before becoming embroiled with Jeffrey Epstein. Subsequently, it was found that she facilitated the procurement of women for parties attended by Epstein and his consorts, with some being underage. She is currently being held at Federal Correctional Institution Tallahassee, located in Florida.
On July 22, presumably in response to the outcry for the release of the Epstein files, Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche released a statement through Pam Bondi, which read,
“If Ghislaine Maxwell has information about anyone who has committed crimes against victims, the FBI and DOJ will hear what she has to say."
Previously, her name had not been out of the news cycle lately in conversations about Epstein. It continued,
“Therefore, at the direction of Attorney General Bondi, I have communicated with counsel for Ms. Maxwell to determine whether she would be willing to speak with prosecutors from the Department. I anticipate meeting with Ms. Maxwell in the coming days.”
Incidentally, this was tweeted on the same day the House Oversight Committee passed an internal vote to subpoena Ghislaine Maxwell for a deposition. David Oscar Markus, who is Maxwell’s attorney, confirmed the news via X.
“I can confirm that we are in discussions with the government and that Ghislaine will always testify truthfully. We are grateful to President Trump for his commitment to uncovering the truth in this case.”
The current administration is under fire for its management of the situation as a whole. As of now, it remains to be seen if all of this posturing will lead to a satisfactory outcome for the American people.
