Adam the Woo, revolutionary YouTube creator who passed away at the age of 51, will be honored with a public celebration of life. His father, Jim Williams, has personally invited fans to gather and celebrate the life of his son. The event embodies the same friendly, open attitude that Adam built in the community over the course of more than ten years. Jim started with a phrase that was associated with his son’s videos:

"Join me, shall you?"

In a message posted publicly, Jim Williams announced that a celebration of life would be accessible to fans, marking a rare convergence of the creator’s private family sphere and the wider fan base that had rallied across the world each day through Adam’s journey. Signing off with a variation on a phrase long associated with his son’s videos: “Join me, shall you?” which carried the same warmth that teased a community out of a simple viewer relationship.

Though particular logistical arrangements will likely follow as a separate communication, it is apparent that the general purpose of this event is to pay a kind of tribute to Adam, not in terms of stifling his memory but through shared remembering and appreciation of what a joyous influence he was on so many people.

Adam the Woo, the YouTube pioneer

Adam the Woo, whose real name is Adam Williams, is known widely as one of the first theme park and Americana YouTubers on the Internet today. He began his channel in 2009, years before travel blogging became "cool" and part of the Internet's viral culture. Later, he joined "The Daily Woo" to create content on an almost daily basis that featured his life on the road.

Starting with walking tours of Disneyland and Disney World to exploring abandoned structures, roadside wonders, and locations for famous films, Adam's content was always recognizable for its slow pace and conversational tone. It was not uncommon for viewers to comment that watching a video of his was much like a walk with a friend, quiet, curious, and genuine.

His last video upload, posted only a short time before his passing, included Christmas lights in Celebration, Florida.

His personal life

Adam lived a mostly secluded life and was born in Tupelo, Mississippi. It was unknown to the general public that he was married or had kids. Following Adam's death, close friend and fellow YouTuber Justin Scarred identified his parents, Jim and June Williams, as well as his sister, Faith.

Jim Williams, who made occasional appearances in Adam's videos, formally acknowledged his son's passing. Adam's choice to throw a celebration of life that was open to all fans highlights how much his online following influenced who he was in real life.

Adam the Woo was found dead in his Florida residence after a welfare call. As reported by law enforcement, when they first arrived, they could not make contact with Adam; however, they did return after a report of an unattended death. It was a concerned friend who climbed up a ladder, looked through the window on the third floor and found Adam dead in his house.

Unfortunately, no cause of death has yet been found according to the authorities, and a full autopsy should help to clarify matters.

With the announcement of Adam the Woo's death, tributes and wishes came pouring in from around the world, showing how loved Adam was.

A user commented:

“I got to meet Adam the Woo in 2017 when our paths crossed in Texas and made this video. A true original who just loved making daily videos about his life on YouTube for over a decade. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.”

Another user wrote:

“We lost Adam the Woo today. He was the best of us. Always kind. Incredibly generous. People don’t know how much he was there for every one of us. He opened himself up to everyone. Not just in his videos, sharing his entire life, but on a personal level as well. I’m humbled by the thought that I was able to call him a friend. More than that, he was family. I love you Adam. I miss you.”

Another added:

"Biggest loss this crappy world could have endured, especially so close to Christmas…The positivity Adam brought to our world will be hard to ever match. Truly a legend of our times in the kindest and most compassionate form…"

Adam the Woo's impact goes beyond subscribers and views. Adam defined a generation and went on to influence many to start travel blogging.
