Actors Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively have been entrenched in a very public legal battle since December 2024. At the time, Lively accused her co-star Justin Baldoni of sexual harassment, citing incidents that took place on the set of their film It Ends With Us. Baldoni eventually responded with a $400 million countersuit of his own, accusing Lively of extortion and defamation.In the latest update about the tense proceedings between Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively, the former’s countersuit has officially been dismissed, as Baldoni missed a court-imposed deadline to amend his claims.As per Complex reports, U.S. District Judge Lewis Liman of the Southern District of New York voided their suit once they did not act on the matter in a timely fashion according to legal requirements. While the case has been closed for now, Justin Baldoni will still have the right to file for an appeal of the judgment in the future.While some headway has been made, the final ruling on Lively’s initial suit has yet to be determined. In the complaint, Lively cited several instances on set that were allegedly troubling for her as a direct result of Baldoni’s actions. In fact, she referred to the It Ends With Us set as “a hostile work environment.”Eventually, after a second complaint was filed against Justin Baldoni by an unnamed actress, he responded. Baldoni’s lawyer, Bryan Freedman, was summarily dismissive of the claims and alleged that Lively made “multiple demands and threats” during the film’s production. This behavior included “threatening to not show up to set, threatening to not promote the film, ultimately leading to its demise during release, if her demands were not met.”Then, on December 28, 2024, Freedman announced a countersuit while sharing the following with Deadline,“I am not going to speak to when or how many lawsuits we are filing but when we file our first lawsuit, it is going to shock everyone who has been manipulated into believing a demonstrably false narrative. It will be supported by real evidence and tell the true story. In over 30 years of practicing, I have never seen this level of unethical behavior intentionally fueled through media manipulation.”The next domino to fall was Justin Baldwin’s $250 million lawsuit against The New York Times. Not only did the institution fire back and defend its journalistic integrity, but Blake Lively also sued him in the Southern District of New York on the same day. Lively’s legal team made claims of sexual harassment, retaliation, breach of contract, infliction of emotional distress, invasion of privacy, and lost wages, as per US Weekly.What followed was Justin Baldoni’s $400 million countersuit, filed on January 16, 2025.
