While Katy Perry’s standing as an iconic voice in pop music is unquestioned, she has seen a slight dip in popularity in recent times. This is due to her participation in the all-female Blue Origin spaceflight, amongst other things.

In the latest news about the “Roar” singer, Katy Perry has demanded an additional $5 million as part of an ongoing legal debate surrounding a Montecito home the popstar purchased over 5 years ago. The defendant in the case, an 86-year-old former army serviceman, Carl Wescott, is reportedly severely ill and bedridden with Huntington’s disease. His diagnosis requires him to remain in hospice so he can receive the most effective care.

While Katy Perry may have jurisdictional rights as it pertains to the case, the optics of the situation look terrible, considering Wescott’s age, health concerns, and military service background. According to the New York Post, PR strategist Abesi Manyando shared the following take on Perry’s ongoing legal battle with The Telegraph.

“The optics of a millionaire pop star demanding hefty damages from a very ill man are terrible. This isn’t just a lawsuit, it’s now a David and Goliath narrative – a global superstar with wealth, legal resources and leverage versus an elderly, declining veteran who already lost his home. And that dynamic carries emotional weight.”

It remains to be seen how the situation plays out, although as it stands, it's tough to envision an outcome where Katy Perry’s image doesn’t take a slight hit.

Katy Perry - New Single "Bandaids", more

In other news, Katy Perry is fresh off the release of her newest single “Bandaids”. What’s significant about the release is that despite an all-around effort to push her single, the response has been lukewarm. This speaks to the level of disconnect she has seemingly garnered with her fans due to personal choices and her inability to quell that noise with her art.

It also marks yet another effort of Perry’s that did not debut on the Billboard Hot 100. In fact, as per the data, she has not appeared on the vaunted list since last year with “Woman’s World, which even then disappointingly only rose as high as No. 63 before fading away.

The song is intended to be an honest depiction of her breakup with actor Orlando Bloom as she sees it. The lyrics are bittersweet and seem intent on provoking sentiments from the audience that may unfortunately not be present.
