A federal judge has sanctioned the lawyer for representing the plaintiff in the s*xual assault lawsuit against Megan Thee Stallion.
The Grammy-winning rapper now stands accused of workplace harassment after her former cameraman came forward. USA Herald has reported that U.S. District Judge Gregory H. Woods ruled against tossing the lawsuit, which means the case will now move to trial unless both parties choose to settle outside of court.
Born Megan Pete, the songstress and her record label, Roc Nation, have both been named as defendants in the lawsuit brought forth by Emilio Garcia, who worked for the former from 2018 to 2023. The cameraman first filed his lawsuit in Los Angeles County Superior Court in April 2024, outlining instances of body shaming, s*xually inappropriate conduct, and workplace retaliation.
Everything we know about the case against Megan Thee Stallion
Vibe has reported that Garcia, who is openly gay, recalled a 2022 instance in his filing where, when they were in Ibiza, Megan Thee Stallion allegedly tried to get intimate with another woman in front of him. At the time of the incident, they were in a moving vehicle, and the encounter reportedly left Garcia "completely uncomfortable."
Megan also allegedly passed fat-shaming remarks about him and warned him against speaking up, among other things. Garcia has accused her of targeting him because of his sexual orientation, causing him to be unable to work effectively.
Reportedly, Judge Woods stated in his ruling that Garcia
“plausibly pleads that the alleged sexual encounter in the SUV in Ibiza created a hostile work environment based on plaintiff’s sexual orientation.”
In his ruling, Judge Woods reportedly penned,
“Plaintiff asks the court to draw the inference that ‘Pete would not have engaged in group sex with other women in front of a heterosexual male’; that ‘Pete felt comfortable engaging in group sex with other women in front of plaintiff because of plaintiff’s sexuality and gender.' This is not an unreasonable inference to draw from the facts alleged. Therefore, plaintiff has plausibly pleaded that he experienced the alleged inferior conditions of his employment on account of his sexual orientation.”
According to Where is the Buzz, Garcia says he tried to report Megan Thee Stallion's behavior to his bosses, but was met with punishment. His hours were axed, his salary cut down, and he was eventually fired. He also claims to have been blacklisted in his industry for coming forward.
Megan Thee Stallion's lawyer, Alex Spiro, has since refuted these notions, rubbishing the suit as a calculated method of extortion:
“This is an employment claim for money, with no sexual harassment claim filed and with salacious accusations to attempt to embarrass her. We will deal with this in court.”
Per the outlet, the rapper herself has yet to address the situation, though she has referred to Garcia as a “con artist," and that his lawsuit is
“entirely of falsehoods, misrepresentations of fact, and outlandish claims that have no basis in fact or law and no merit.”
However, Garcia’s attorney, Ron Zambrano, is pushing back as he sat down for an interview with Billboard, where stated:
“We have plenty of facts after fourteen depositions we’ve taken to get the facts in we need. I’m sure"
It remains to be seen if Megan Thee Stallion and Garcia choose to settle the case outside of court or if it will head to trial.
