Morgan Freeman opens up about bombing an audition that would later cost him horribly: Read more

In other news, Morgan Freeman made headlines just days ago when he got candid about deliberately bombing his audition for The Thing. The actor, who has seldom starred in horror movies, spoke to Oprah Winfrey about taking up the role, despite being known at the time for working on a children's show:

“I read the script, and I go back for the audition," he said. “The producer or director, one of those, said, ‘Did you read the script? What did you think? I said, ‘Well, you’ve got 11 people at the South Pole. Eight of them are scientists. Then you have a cook, a mechanic, and something else; they’re all Black. What do you think I think?”

While he didn't specify at the time which part he was auditioning for, he did clarify that in the end, "Needless to say, I didn’t get that job!”

He clarified that he didn't think that it was fair for Black people not to be considered for the role of scientists, but that sticking to his principles proved damaging in the long run:

"So, there was a period there in the early ’80s when I didn’t get any work," he said.
