A video of a woman snatching a home run ball from a young Phillies fan is going viral, but the Marlins swooped in to save the day.
In the video, taken at the Marlins vs. Phillies game this Friday, September 5, at LoanDepot park, a man can be seen bolting to grab a home run ball by Harrison Bader as a swarm dives for it as well, only for him to take it to his son. However, an unhappy woman bolts towards him, grabs his hand, and starts yelling at him, leaving him and who seemed to be his son visibly startled.
The father handed her the ball, and she stormed away. Shortly after, another video of a representative for the Miami Marlins approaching the boy to hand him a goodie back made its way to X. Some reports even suggest that he was celebrating his birthday that day.
While scores appreciated the effort, they did point out that the boy and his father were wearing t-shirts to support the Philadelphia Phillies. Here's how one user reacted, for instance:
"Nice but he’s a Phillies fan"
The comments didn't end there:
"Nice seeing justice served. The ball was in the row in front, she didnt have it! I don’t understand these peeps who said it was hers. Whoever gets it off the ground first gets it!!! Besides- any decent human gives the ball to the kid next to you- they’ll actually use it!" one user exclaimed.
"The perfect response because it’s about the kids," someone else chimed in.
"I would pay to see the look of regret on the woman’s face in this moment," another remarked.
"I really hope that the woman saw that and felt some internal shame," a fourth user opined.
Even more chimed in with opinions:
"So freakin glad! Marlins the best!" one fan exclaimed.
"That's so sweet of the Marlins to make this young fan's birthday extra special with gifts after that incident," another pointed out.
"Its Marlins merchandise. It was probably on clearance," someone else quipped.
"I wish the camera had of panned across to the section with the lady that took the ball," one more noted.
Scores online were thrilled to see that the Marlins made an effort, despite some snarky comments here and there.

As of this writing, further details about the woman in question remain unclear. However, the Philadelphia Phillies did eventually catch on to the incident, and shortly after, a photo of Harrison Bader signing a bat for the kid was shared on its official X account.
“Going home with a signed bat from Bader,” the post read, alongside a photo of their meet-and-greet.
The Score has reported that the incident took place during the fourth inning of the game, when Bader crushed a solo homer to left field. This gave his team a 5-1 lead.
Notably, the incident comes on the heels of something similar at the recent US Open, where a boy was given Kamil Majchrzak’s hat after his victory, only for a man to swoop in and snatch it from his hands at the bleachers. He kept the cap for himself, and the debacle was caught on camera. It later made its way to X, sparking a wave of fury online.
Kamil Majchrzak, who'd nabbed a five-set win over ninth seed Karen Khachanov at the time, caught wind of the incident shortly after and took to his Instagram Stories to enlist the help of the internet in locating the boy. He eventually did, and the two had a meet-and-greet. The boy left home with goodies from the Polish player himself that day, as seen in photos the latter shared online.
