Halle Berry has established herself as a mainstay in cinema with an impressive career in film that has now spanned over three decades. The pinnacle of her career was arguably in 2002 when she received the Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role.

In the most recent news about the Never Let Go star, Halle Berry was at the New York Times’ DealBook Summit at the Lincoln Center on December 3, where she elected to share her perspective on California Governor Gavin Newsom while on stage. As per The Hollywood Reporter, the actress shared the following thoughts with those in attendance:

“Back in my great state of California, my very own governor, Gavin Newsom, has vetoed our menopause bill, not one but two years in a row.”

She went on to add,

“But that’s OK, because he’s not going to be governor forever, and the way he has overlooked women, half the population, by devaluing us, he probably should not be our next president either.”

Interestingly, Gavin Newsom would ultimately take the same stage at the event later in the day. A spokesperson for the governor, Izzy Gardon, shared the following message with The Post in response to Berry’s words:

“(He) has deep admiration for Ms. Berry’s advocacy and looks forward to working with her and other stakeholders on this critical issue.”

Halle Berry: Advocacy, more

Halle Berry’s recent public comments about Governor Gavin Newsom are rooted in the actress’ advocacy work. She has been an outspoken ally and leader for menopausal women after suffering through numerous complications in her perimenopausal years.

As a result, the actress has put her support behind a bipartisan bill referred to as the Menopause Care Equity Act. The legislation would have assured full health insurance coverage for women seeking treatment in their menopausal and perimenopausal years. The Menopause Care Equity Act would have also required curriculum updates for the California Medical Board as well as ongoing updates to working physicians.

Unfortunately, Governor Gavin Newsom vetoed the bill in October, a notable development after it had reportedly passed the state legislature with near-unanimous bipartisan support.

In other news, Halle Berry’s much-anticipated Crime 101 has released its first trailer. The Amazon MGM Studios film, co-starring Chris Hemsworth, is a crime thriller based on a novella by Don Winslow. As of this report, the film is set to release on February 16, 2026.
