Tom Brady was very close to his previous dog, Lua, whom he shared with his ex-wife, model Gisele Bundchën, until their divorce in 2022. According to People Magazine, he is not the first celebrity to pursue cloning. Back in 2017, Barbara Streisand cloned her beloved dog Samantha into two new dogs, Miss Scarlet and Miss Violet. Similarly, Paris Hilton also cloned her missing dog Diamond in 2022, resulting in two new dogs.

More about Tom Brady cloning his dog, as fans react to this surprising news

In his statement released by the company Colossal Biosciences, Tom Brady spoke about what led him to make the decision to clone his dog. The former NFL quaterback explained that just before Lua's death in 2023, he used an non-invasive procedure to take a sample of her blood. He said:

I love my animals. A few years ago, I worked with Colossal and leveraged their non-invasive cloning technology through a simple blood draw of our family’s elderly dog before she passed

Tom Brady's current dog Junie, is a brown pit bull mix and looks almost identical to Lua. This announcement comes as Colossal Biosciences revealed a major acquisition, announcing that they were now acquiring two other companies, Enquine and Viagen Pets. In another part of his statement, Brady explained how the process gave his family another opportunity to spend time with their beloved dog. He said:

"[This] gave my family a second chance with a clone of our beloved dog. [I am] excited how Colossal and Viagen's tech together can help both families losing their beloved pets while helping to save endangered species.”

Following the recent revelation, fans took to X (formerly Twitter) to share their thoughts on the whole matter. This fan wrote:

"He loves animals. so instead of adopting one from a shelter, he paid what was probably an insane amount to clone one. yeah alright."

Another added:

"Millions of animals suffering but sure! Let’s make clones."

This user tweeted:

"That’s kinda scary."
"No this is actually weird asf. People need to accept the cycle of life, unfortunately it’s you’re only guarantee in this world" added another.

Colossal Biosciences was previously in the news last month for claiming to have cloned dire wolves, although the claim still remains under debate.
