Online memes erupt as Netflix down for over 11k users across US

Streaming giant Netlix appeared to be down for over 11k users across the US on August 26 night. As per the website, DownDetector, reports about Netflix being down came in at around 6:15 p.m. ET. By 9:30 p.m over 11,659 cases of the streaming giant being down were reported.

Approximately 66% of the users reported difficulties relating to video streaming while about 19% reported serve connection issues. 15% reported challenges with the application, indicating technical issues that might have arisen. The outage was specifically reported in the United States and Canada.


Netizens react to Netflix outage with online memes

Netizens took to social media platforms including X, Reddit, TikTok and Instagram to discuss the issues they were facing with the streaming platform. Some even tagged the streaming service's account to voice concerns. The outage has given rise to online memes.

While most were worried about how to pass their free time and what to watch while eating, some took hilarious jabs at the platform and its shows.

What has Netflix said about the platform being down?

The streaming company has not posted any updates on its social media pages or website. The website's help center advises users to try other devices or try again after some time. The website also states that the streaming service faces service outage on "very rare ocassions" and a update is given on the platform in such cases. The website notes,

"You may have problems streaming titles on some devices. Try another device, or try again later. We strive to bring you TV shows and movies you want to watch, whenever you want to watch them, but on very rare ocassions, we do experience a service outage. If we are experiencing an interruption to our streaming service, we'll keep this page up to date with the description of the problem."

The latest outage comes almost three months after the last outage reported across the United States in May 2025 when more than 70k individuals brought up issues they faced on the platform.
