The Pokémon World Championship, which kicked off on August 15, 2025, was wrapped up on August 17, 2025, in Anaheim, California. Keeping up with its tradition, the closing ceremony featured new announcements for Pokémon fans all over the world.
The announcements were presented by Tsunekazu Ishihara, president and CEO of The Pokémon Company, who took the stage to share the exciting news with all Pokémon fans.

2026 Pokémon World Championships
The yet-to-be-released video game, Pokemon Champions, will be making its way to mobile and Nintendo Switch in 2026 and will also be the game used in the official Championship Series video game format for 2026 and beyond. It will replace Pokémon Scarlet and Violet in the official format.
New joiners at the Pokémon Unite Roster
Empoleon will be a new addition to Pokémon Unite as a playable character on September 19, while Dhelmise and Vaporeon will also become available soon. From September 4, Groudon will take over Rayquaza at the Theia Sky Ruins.
Pokémon Trading Game Pocket
A new season is expected at Pokémon TCG Pokect this fall, along with the debut of Mega Pokémon, which includes Mega Altaria, Mega Gyarados, Mega Blaziken, and more.
Pokémon GO: Dark Skies Event announcement
Pokémon GO: Dark Skies Event is set to take place from August 18 to 23, 2025, and the Max Finale will take place between August 23 and 25. Eternamax Eternatus, the legendary Pokémon, will also be up for grabs.
Mega Charizard X and more make a return to Pokémon TCG
The event gave a sneak peek into some new cards featuring Mega Evolution Pokémon, including Mega Charizard X ex, Mega Gardevoir ex, and Mega Lucario ex. Oricario ex was also revealed along with Mega Dragonite ex card.
4-player ranked battles are coming to Pokémon Legends
As per the latest trailer shown during the Pokémon World Championship closing ceremony, 4-player ranked battles will be coming to Pokémon Legends Z-A.
A new fan experience unveiled
At the 2025 Pokémon World Championship, PokémonXP, was unveiled. PokémonXP is a new "event that celebrates all things Pokémon" with "a range of Pokémon centric festivities. It will begin from next year's World Championship, on August 28-30, 2026.
2026 Pokémon World Championship
The 2026 Pokémon World Championship will be taking place at Chase Center in San Francisco, which has a seating capacity of 18,064, as compared to the 2025 Championship location at the Anaheim Convention Center Arena, which has a capacity of 7,500.
