Canadian streamer Imane Anys, also known as Pokimane, shared her thoughts about her celibacy journey in a video posted on Instagram on December 3. In the video, she said she would reveal a secret and then mentioned that she was into celibacy. Mentioning how the experience would be for her, she said:

“And that can range from not kissing on the first date to saving yourself from marriage. It’s a whole spectrum and honestly, there are so many upsides to pacing yourself when it comes to intimacy. For starters, you can avoid becoming attached to the wrong person. We all know what that’s like.”

Pokimane then added:

“And that’s because both physical and emotional intimacy releases oxytocin which makes you feel connected to someone even though you may not be compatible. We often think that falling in love is a mystical rare experience but sometimes, it’s really just hormones and chemicals.”

Pokimane said this practice helped her in preserving her energy. She added that instead of constantly being invested in someone else, she could focus on what she wanted in life. Imane said it could be a good way to avoid any “emotional vampire.” By not getting too close to someone in any way, she could stop herself from being taken advantage of. She then added:

“Last but certainly not the least, less stress, less liability, and less risk of anything unwanted happening. There’s just about no downside to take your time but take your time but all the risk in rushing things. It’s truly up to you.”

Pokimane talks about dropping out of college and convincing her parents

In February 2025, Pokimane sat down for a conversation with Colin and Samir on their podcast. Discussing her educational journey, she said she took a gap year in college but never returned. She said it eventually became seven to eight years. Imane said she still wonders every year if her credits have expired. She then mentioned:

“After my second year of chemical engineering I started making a bit more money from streaming. We can get into this later. I ended up taking a year off and never going back.”

Pokimane also said:

“I was a very very studious kid and I was very excited frankly to like go to university get good grades land a good job and hopefully be able to repay my parents for the sacrifices that they made um so that my brother and I could have a better life right so I ended up going into engineering and two years in sponsors started coming into the streaming space so I actually started making like substantial amount of money from just you know streaming and joking online.”

Pokimane explained that she made a PowerPoint showing how much money she earned from two years of streaming and what could happen if she took a one-year break. She felt her parents wouldn’t agree to her dropping out completely, so she presented it as a short break. She honestly thought it would only last a year.

She planned to save enough to pay off her current and future college loans so she could return to school without money worries. After preparing everything, she sat down and had a long conversation with her parents.
