Quentin Tarantino is widely regarded as one of the most uniquely gifted filmmakers of all time. According to the online website Celebrity Net Worth, he has amassed a total career earnings of $120 million to date, with several projects on the way. The esteemed director, known for his occasionally controversial opinions, is in the news for comments made about a current actor, Paul Dano.

Tarantino’s comments on Dano came on his most recent appearance on the Bret Easton Ellis Podcast, where he announced his top 10 films of the 21st century. The director had previously named numbers 20-11 in the previous episode. He arrived on the subject of the actor when discussing the aforementioned There Will Be Blood,

“There Will Be Blood would stand a good chance at being No 1 or 2 if it didn’t have a big, giant flaw in it … and the flaw is Paul Dano.”

The Kill Bill series creator would go on to add,

“Obviously, it’s supposed to be a two-hander, but it’s also drastically obvious that it’s not a two-hander. [Dano] is weak sauce, man. He’s a weak sister.”

Paul Dano has made a career for himself starring in acclaimed hits such as There Will Be Blood, Prisoners, and The Batman. Celebrity Net Worth estimates the actor’s net worth at $14 million.

Quentin Tarantino punctuated his opinion with a take on an actor who would have done the role justice in his opinion,

“Austin Butler would have been wonderful in that role. [Dano] is just such a weak, weak, uninteresting guy.”

For reference, Butler was 16 years old at the time.

Quentin Tarantino’s Top 10 films of the 21st century

While his take on Paul Dano became viral on short order, the actual reason for the follow-up podcast episode was to announce Quentin Tarantino’s top 10 films of the 21st century.

Ridley Scott’s war epic Black Hawk Down ranks at the top of Tarantino’s list. While this take alone garnered considerable backlash, what’s truly shocking is that Pixar's Toy Story 3 came in at number two on the list. Sofia Coppola's Lost in Translation followed in third place, with Dunkirk and There Will Be Blood rounding out the top 5.

While many great works of art were honored on the list, the conversation online will likely revolve around the list's omissions. With film as an industry at a crossroads, it's certainly an interesting time for Quentin Tarantino to make his voice heard on the matter.
