Red Velvet's Yeri is entering a new phase in her career by shifting to acting under her original name, Kim Ye-rim.
K-pop girl group Red Velvet's Yeri is on her way to a new adventure in her life. The idol recently decided not to renew her contract with SM Entertainment, her debut agency. Since then, she has decided to join Blitzway Entertainment as an actress and is planning to pursue that as a career further. Not only has the Dear Diary singer made this monumental decision, but she is also planning to move forward with her given name, Kim Ye-rim.
Blitzway Entertainment CEO Hong Min Ki shared on May 1,
“We’re thrilled to embark on this new journey with Kim Yerim, who has consistently built a strong presence both domestically and internationally. We will provide our full support so that the experience and artistic sensibility she developed on global stages can lead to a diverse and expansive acting career.”
Along with the statement and her exclusive contract, the company also dropped new teaser images of Kim Ye-rim. The images portray a strong, bold personality where she is looking directly into the camera with a strong gaze and dressed in minimal styling in all black.
Kim Ye-rim and Blitzway Entertainment
Kim Ye-rim debuted in 2014 as a member of the K-pop group Red Velvet. Though she has been mainly focused on her music career, she is not a stranger to the world of acting. She has previously been part of projects like the film “Mint Condition,” "Blue Birthday," and the KBS1 drama "Galchae." In 2023, Yeri acted in the Netflix drama "Bitch X Rich." In the series, which was a global success and is preparing for a second season, the idol played the role of Baek Je-na, the only daughter of a powerful chaebol family.
Kim Ye-rim announced earlier in April that she, along with fellow groupmate Wendy, will be departing from SM Entertainment, though they will continue to participate in Red Velvet’s group activities.
SM's full statement is as follows:
Hello. This is SM Entertainment.
We are informing you that our exclusive contracts with Wendy and Yeri have come to an end.
The time we spent together with Wendy and Yeri, who—after debuting as Red Velvet—were not only active in group promotions but also as solo artists in various fields, was a great joy for us as well. We will cherish all the moments we have spent together with them until now, and we will sincerely root for Wendy and Yeri as they make a new start.
Additionally, as members of Red Velvet, Wendy and Yeri will be working with us for their group activities, and we ask that you look forward to Red Velvet’s shining journey that will continue to unfold.
We sincerely thank you for the unsparing love you have given Wendy and Yeri up until now, and we hope you will give your warm interest to the two members as they embark on new challenges in their respective paths.
Thank you.
