"She cloned herself": Internet buzzes after Reese Witherspoon posts Christmas photo with her seemingly lookalike daughter

Reese Witherspoon is one of the most iconic actors of her generation. Pivoting effortlessly between genres and over the decades, she has turned in several memorable performances that have since become entrenched in pop culture.

In the recent news about the Big Little Lies star, Reese Witherspoon shared an Instagram post on December 21 to commemorate this year’s holiday season. The first slide of the carousel features an image of her alongside her daughter Ava, in which the similarity between mother and daughter is truly striking:

Despite the Instagram Post featuring several pictures, the reaction online was largely in response to the uncanny resemblance between Reese Witherspoon and her daughter Ava.

One user took to X and shared:

"This is insane she cloned herself"

Another X user added:

"Looks like Reese Witherspoon hit "copy-paste" on her DNA, adorable glitch alert."

An X user even thought that the image was AI-generated on first glance:

"Initially thought this was one of those celebrity with their younger-self AI slop post. Then I read the caption. Dad’s genes didn’t even show up."

Other users also noted her daughter Ava’s resemblance to her father, actor Ryan Phillips. One X user stated:

"As much as she looks like her mother, she actually looks like her father. That's wild."

Finally, one X user suggested the two profit off their shared looks:

"Genetics are something else they should do a Legally Blonde film together."

Reese Witherspoon reflects on her career

In other news, Reese Witherspoon recently responded to questions from Bloomberg’s Emily Chang regarding her film career. The actress shared the following thoughts regarding whether she would be successful if she were to restart her career today:

“I don’t think my career would be possible. It’s a different world.”

Witherspoon added:

“I see young people and I have so much compassion for young performers and actors because they have to be the producer, the director, they have to shoot their own videos, they have to market themselves. That’s not something that I understood when I was 20 years old.”

In a separate interview for Harper’s Bazaar UK, Reese Witherspoon interestingly attributed part of her success to her anxiety:

“I was probably successful because I had so much anxiety. They go hand in hand. I had pressured myself to extreme levels to show up at work in a perfect way.”

She elaborated and added nuance to her take:

“We all now know, perfect is not attainable. It’s not sustainable. I stressed myself out in service of my job, and it got me really, really far. I’m rewarded for my anxiety and perfectionism.”
