Smokey Robinson’s attorney has denied the s*xual assault allegations made by four former housekeepers in a $50 million lawsuit filed on May 6, 2025, in Los Angeles Superior Court.

According to a report in TMZ, his attorney, Christopher Frost, told the outlet that it is nothing but a vile method of extracting money from him, labelling it as a “shakedown”. He said:

“As this case progresses, the evidence (the crucial element that guides us) will show that this is simply an ugly method of trying to extract money from an 85-year-old American icon -- $50 million, to be exact.”

He called out the plaintiffs, who levelled allegations of s*xual assault and battery against Robinson, his wife, Frances Gladney Robinson, and their attorneys. He said:

"Through this process we have seen the bizarre theatrics of yesterday's news conference, as the plaintiffs' attorneys outlined vile, false allegations against Mr. and Mrs. Robinson, trying to enlist the public as an unwitting participant in the media circus they are trying to create."

He added that Robinson would soon file a motion to dismiss the lawsuit, addressing "numerous aspects" of the allegations that "defy credulity as well as issues relating to purported timelines, inconsistencies, and relationships between the plaintiffs and others."

What do we know about the case?

Reportedly, Jane Doe 1 was s*xually assaulted at least seven times between January 2023 and February 2024, when she worked as a housekeeper for the Robinsons. Jane Doe 2 said that she was s*xually abused at least 23 times between 2016 to 2024. The complaint noted that Robinson would “summon her to either the laundry room or garage, where there were no cameras.”

Jane Doe 3 said that she was r*ped, s*xually harassed, s*xually assaulted at least 20 times between February 2012 and April 2024 at his Chatsworth home. Jane Doe 4 said that Robinson r*ped her in his Las Vegas home in 2007, and also at his Chatsworth and Bell Canyon homes. The alleged assault took place between 2006 and 2024. Besides being a housekeeper, she also worked as Gladney’s personal assistant, cook and hairdresser.

The complaint noted that the assault took place often on Saturdays when Robinson would drop his wife off at the nail salon and would “rush home knowing that he would be home alone with” the plaintiff. They accused the Robinsons of failing to pay them minimum wages or overtime wages and did not provide them with rest or any lunch breaks. They further accused Gladney of creating a hostile work environment.
