On October 19, W Korea issued an apology over its Breast Cancer Awareness Event via its social media handle. The apology came after the fashion magazine received widespread criticism for glamorizing the awareness campaign with music, drinking, and dancing.
The online community condemned the publication for failing to focus on its primary goal of addressing breast cancer, concentrating instead on celebrating the awareness campaign with celebrities, where no one discussed breast cancer.
The magazine finally posted an apology after four days, as the event took place on October 15. W Korea’s post acknowledged their inappropriate handling and execution of the event.
“This is W Korea. Our “Love Your W” Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign began in 2006 and has, for the past 20 years, strived to raise awareness about the importance of early detection. However, we acknowledge that the event held on October 15 was inappropriate in its planning and execution, considering the intent of the campaign. We accept the criticism and are deeply reflecting.”
They also apologized for not being considerate of breast cancer patients and their families.
“We also apologize for not being more considerate of breast cancer patients and their families, and for causing them pain and discomfort. We also truly regret to have caused such a scandal and distress to those who shared the campaign’s purpose and participated with goodwill.”
Netizens seemed disappointed with W Korea’s apology, especially for delaying it for four days despite backlash. One of them on X called their response a solid cleanup.
“W Koreas apology is a solid cleanup after that event flop. Even campaigns can poop the bed sometimes. Better reflection next time!”
Internet disappointed with W Korea’s apology following Breast Cancer Awareness Event
A netizen commented that the magazine owes an apology to BTS’ Taehyung, as the attendees also faced criticism.
“This isn’t enough. They owe Tae a direct public apology. they’ve been lurking on socials, deleting other videos so they clearly saw the backlash Tae was facing yet did nothing. the lack of accountability is disgusting. May this magazine never cross paths with him again”
Another online user called out the magazine for waiting for the blame to shift to the celebs who attended the event.
“Waiting days for an apology, letting the blame focus on the attendee and then not even explaining themselves for the lack of donations made even if in the apology they talk about wanting to help family in need”
An internet user said that idols write better and more meaningful apologies, adding that W Korea’s response was worse than their event.
“This is their Apology? Oh hell nah even idols write a big meaningful Apology after getting hated for not smiling at the camera properly. The Apology is worse than the event. And are the idols going to stay quiet? As much as its w koreas fault, its the idols fault too.”
Another netizen said that their statement lacked sincerity.
“An apology statement devoid of sincerity. Disclose the details of public donations!”
Another online user said:
“ridiculous apology”
