An interesting change was added to this year's Cannes Film Festival, and celebrities weren't the happiest.
You know that saying, "Rules are meant to be broken." Well, some celebrities at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival took it way too seriously. Literally 24 hours before the start of the annual film festival, they released new guidelines for the outfits that the celebrities would wear on the red carpet.
The official charter reads, "For decency reasons, nudity is prohibited on the red carpet, as well as in any other area of the festival. Voluminous outfits, in particular those with a large train, that hinder the proper flow of traffic of guests and complicate seating in the theater are not permitted. The festival welcoming teams will be obligated to prohibit red carpet access to anyone not respecting these rules.”
The rules essentially state, no sheer looks, no over-the-top silhouettes, and no larger-than-life trails, as was seen last year. This change is due to the traffic accumulating on the carpet, trying to usher people into the event, as the entry itself is smaller than it seems. Last year, quite a few guests had to be rushed by the escorts as they were trying to show off their outfits.

The last-minute nature of the rules must have caused a frenzy for all the stylists, because making major last-minute changes to looks that take weeks to plan must not have been possible. So here are all the red carpet gracers at this year's Cannes festival who inadvertently broke the law.
Heidi Klum

Model Heidi Klum not only broke one of the new rules but two. On day one, she wore an Elie Saab gown made up of huge pink flowers. The dress had a long train, which was an absolute no-no. The second day, she sacrificed the train for a little more risque look, dressed in a sparkling blue Elie Saab floor-length gown with a plunging neckline.

Bella Hadid

Dressed in a custom Saint Laurent black floor length dress, Bella Hadid looked stunning, however, though the look itself was minimalistic and chic, it featured a high slit on her side, not quite in accordance with the regulations.
Farhana Bodi

Farhana Bodi was wearing a blingtastic custom blush pink creation by Atelier Zuhra. Though the Dubai Bling star looked otherworldly, the top silhouette of her gown showcased an extra piece that would possibly restrict the people sitting behind her from seeing the screens.
Alessandra Ambrosio

Model Alessandra Ambrosio was wearing custom Zuhair Murad couture. The dress was an emerald green draped gown with voluminous sleeves however, the reason it doesn't go with the regulation is because it's incredibly high slit and deep cleavage.
Wan QianHui

Chinese stage and musical theatre actress Wan QianHui also graced the carpet in Wang Feng couture and as stunning as the look was, it was also quite unmanageable due to its long trail as well as voluminous silhouette. All in all, the gown was a work of art, with its thousands of ruffles, but maybe not Cannes red carpet appropriate.
Frédérique Bel

French actress Frédérique Bel was a vision in gold, but didn't quite follow the vision that the international film festival wanted. Bel dressed in a gold gown that had multiple cutouts all over and a high slit, questioning the integrity and capability of the fabric to keep the look together. To add a touch of whimsy, she finished the look with a French fry-shaped bag.
Chloe Lecareux

Another risque look was donned by model Chloe Lecareux, dressed in Zuhair Murad couture. The look had a long black cape-like train and a gown with a cutout on the belly button as well as the sides of the ribs. Chloe paired the look with a plunging neckline.
Some other rules over the years include a ban on flat shoes, no totes or large bags, and no political statements or protests are allowed.
