On December 29, NBA champion Dwight Howard shared an X post, in which he wrote that military service should be made mandatory for everyone, at least for a year. According to him, this would inculcate values of discipline and culture among the people. The post read:

“Random. I honestly feel like the president should make one year of service mandatory for everyone born in America. A lot of other countries do it. And I think it would help with discipline and structure. I’m curious what yall think would this help America or nah.”

Social media users expressed opinions about Dwight Howard's statement. One X user commented:

“Yeaaaaa start with his family first.”

However, another netizen opined:

“I think 1 year of customer service of any type (retail, serving, bartending, etc...) would help this country all understand each other and maybe even get along better.”

One X user claimed:

“He can serve with his entire family if he loves military so much and leave us out of it.”

Adding to Dwight Howard’s statement, an online commentator mentioned:

“Ok cool and if you want to hold positions in government that require you to be voted in, you have to serve 3-5 years minimum.”

One social media user joked:

“Guy thats never been in the military wants everyone to be in the military.”

Agreeing with Dwight Howard, a netizen shared:

“Interesting perspective. Encouraging service could build discipline and unity while giving people a deeper understanding of commitment and responsibility.”

Dwight Howard talks about the Hall of Fame

In August 2025, Dwight Howard appeared on the Bryce Crawford Podcast. When asked about how he felt being inducted into the Hall of Fame, he said it was like getting a call from Jesus before leaving the world. Howard explained:

“Before you leave this earth, you get a call. And when you look at the phone, it's Jesus on the hotline and […] say, ‘My son, guess what? For all your hard work, dedication in life, for being a disciple of Christ, you and your name has been put in the lamb's book of life. You will be forever in the kingdom of God.’ That's how that felt for me. Like hearing Jesus call me home because of all the hard work, dedication, effort, energy, sacrifice, love, so many things had to come with making it to the NBA.”

Dwight Howard said getting the honor was like a divine experience. He added that people had different experiences in life. With the Hall of Fame honor, he realized that one could cry out of happiness. He said:

“I didn't know it was possible to cry of happiness like that. Like I literally was like hand on my knees down like thank you Jesus. Like I can't believe like tears just flowing. I cried so much that I didn't have no more tears left in my eyes. Like my body had let everything out. And it was all for happiness.”

Crawford appreciated Dwight Howard for his contributions to basketball. He said Howard was a role model for many people. When he was a kid, he put Howard’s poster on his door.
