After Jimmy Kimmel’s show was taken down from ABC, businessman Dave Portnoy shared his thoughts in an X post on September 18. Portnoy opined that Kimmel was not a victim of cancel culture. In his X post, he wrote:
“With Kimmel getting canned I’m seeing lots of people talking about the hypocrisy of cancel culture. To me Cancel culture is when people go out of their way to dig up old tweets, videos etc looking for dirt on somebody they don’t like in an effort to get them fired.”
He went on:
“Like if Kimmel got canceled for sh*t he did on the Man Show that would be cancel culture. But when a person says something that a ton of people find offensive, rude, dumb in real time and then that person is punished for it that’s not cancel culture. That is consequences for your actions.”
According to the BBC, Jimmy Kimmel’s show was taken down for his comments on Charlie Kirk’s murder. Meanwhile, Donald Trump reacted to the news through a post on his Truth Social account, writing that it was positive news for the country. He even congratulated ABC for making the decision, while bashing Jimmy Kimmel. He wrote:
“Kimmel has ZERO talent, and worse ratings than even Colbert, if that’s possible. That leaves Jimmy and Seth, two total losers, on Fake News NBC. Their ratings are also horrible. Do it NBC!!! President DJT.”
What did Jimmy Kimmel say about Charlie Kirk?
On the September 12 episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live, he said that in the second biggest city of the country, people were still struggling to understand the shocking murder of Charlie Kirk. He explained that Kirk’s death had made tensions and anger between people even stronger, and he had seen cruel reactions from both political sides. Kimmel went on:
“Some people are cheering this, which is something I won't ever understand. We had another school shooting yesterday in Colorado, the hundredth one of the year. And with all these terrible things happening, you would think that our president would at least make an attempt to bring us together. But he didn't. President Obama did. President Biden did. Presidents Bush and Clinton did. President Trump did not.”
Jimmy Kimmel previously shared an Instagram post about Charlie Kirk, following the shooting incident. He said without blaming others, one should slow down and think that it is unacceptable to take someone else’s life. His post continued:
“On behalf of my family, we send love to the Kirks and to all the children, parents and innocents who fall victim to senseless gun violence.”
Meanwhile, sports analyst Emmanuel Acho also reacted to Jimmy Kimmel’s show being taken down. In a video posted on X, he asked if free speech was even free. He mentioned the First Amendment and then said that the freedom of speech was no longer free. Speaking about Kimmel, he said freedom of speech was not freedom from consequence.
