Apple has officially raised the price of its streaming service Apple TV+. This has sparked a wave of online backlash from some subscribers. From August 21, 2025, new customers in the U.S. will now have to pay $12.99 per month, up from the previous $9.99.
This latest 30 percent hike is the third time since its launch in 2019 that Apple has raised the monthly fee. According to Variety, for existing Apple TV+ subscribers, the change will show up within 30 days of their next renewal date. However, the annual plan, which is priced at $99.99, remains unchanged, as does Apple's Apple One bundle. It packages the company's multiple services into one subscription.
The increase was notably quick to light up social media. One netizen declared:
"Their content literally sucks, I only have it cause it is free with my phone carrier."
Internet reactions to the increased Apple TV+ monthly subscription
Pop Base took to its official X (formerly Twitter) page to announce that,
"Apple TV+ is increasing its US subscription price by $3, now totaling $12.99 a month."
Netizens were notably quick to jump into the comment section of the X post as they shared their reactions to the news. Below are what some of them had to say:
"Honestly I don't mind Apple TV is the only streaming service relying only on original content and I respect that. Their shows are quality too they can have my $9.99. Netflix consistently puts out garbage and I pay them almost $20/month", opined a user.
"I rotate my subscriptions based on programing. Hulu is off rotation until Handmaids is back. PBS is "on" for Unforgiven. Apple will be off until something interests me. Streaming channels have raised their prices, but we can still cancel them monthly.", stated another.
"Bro they should just combine all the streaming platforms into one big package. Tired of the price going up", expressed a third.
Others also chimed in:
"PS5, Pepsi Spotify and now Apple TV+ increasing prices The economy is just too bad", penned a netizen.
"Boycott all these streaming services. Add it all up and you are back to paying for cable.", noted another.
"Why would anyone pay for that? The content that comes with the subscription itself sucks and you have to pay extra to watch anything interesting", asked a third.
Apple TV+ entered the streaming service in November 2019. It started at $4.99 per month. The platform was built around a promise of ad-free original content.
Over the years, the monthly fee crept up to $6.99 in 2022, $9.99 in 2023, and now $12.99 in 2025. Notably, reports suggest the service is still not profitable. According to The Information, it has been losing over $1 billion annually, mainly due to significant spending on premium content that outweighs revenue from subscribers.
