Bad Company musician Simon Kirke during an October 28 appearance on Lyndsanity! With Lyndsey Parker revealed why it took decades for the band's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction.
"Without naming names, I think there was a certain anti-Bad Company movement. That's really all I can say."
Lyndsey Parker questioned whether the movement was anti-Bad Company specifically or anti-Arena rock music in general. Kirke responded, saying that Iron Maiden had been nominated 11 times and had not been inducted, and Bad Company got in on the first try.
He continued to add,
"I think also If I was really being honest, Bad Company over the 50 odd years, you know has had a couple of lineups and I think it kind of maybe diluted our currency a little bit or devalued it. I don't really know, but I know that there was um you know, once that long jam had been dispelled, we were in and I am very very happy."
In April 2025, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced that arena-rock supergroup Bad Company would be inducted. The induction comes after a long gap since the group gained popularity in the 1970s.
British supergroup Bad Company is best known for 1970s rock classics as Can't Get Enough, Feel Like Makin' Love, Rock 'n' Roll Fantasy and Shooting Star.
"I was just over the moon" - Simon Kirke talks Bad Company induction
Two days before appearing on Lyndsey Parker's podcast, Simon Kirke, while discussing Bad Company's induction to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, spoke to Forbes. Kirke opined that the band should have been inducted earlier.
"I know that the musicians, for the most part, who had been inducted over the years, wanted us to be in. I got the call,l I believe, (last) October. My manager, David Spero, said, 'It looks like you're going to get nominated.' And then in February, he told me, 'Don't tell anyone, you're in." And I was just over the moon."
Elsewhere in the podcast, Simon Kirke noted that the supergroup will be performing at the Hall of Fame. Kirke also opened up about how he feels about playing with Paul Rodgers after a five-year break in Las Vegas.
Bad Company's induction ceremony at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is scheduled on November 8 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.
