Candace Owens's latest claim regarding the music industry and its alleged contract system is drawing notable reactions across social media platforms. Candace Owens has compared record labels to a "mafia" that allegedly controls artists and their works.

Candace Owens had previously said that she wanted to sample seven seconds of Ye fka Kanye West's voice for a podcast intro. However, she was allegedly told that she would need to pay $100,000 to the label that owns Ye's masters.

Candace Owens took to her official X (formerly Twitter) page to elaborate on her claim. She wrote,

"Prince and Michael Jackson tried to explain this to the public. Michael fought the hardest against Sony. Ye picked up the baton."

She also added,

"While I have a platform I want to add to the chorus of people stating that creators sign contracts with zero understanding that they are actually signing themselves up to be owned by a literal mafia who are willing to murder for your publishing rights."

Netizens reacted, saying,

"They made YE beg for forgiveness. I would rather them plan my exit than do that."

Owens also alleged that record labels would "rather force talent into a conservatorship." She claimed that these were not typical business arrangements but "business arrangements with a mafia" and stated that in many cases they allegedly have judges, lawyers, journalists and others "in their back pocket."

Netizens soon jumped into the comment section of Candace Owens' X post to pen their thoughts about her claims. Below are some of their reactions:

"that zero understanding part is the wild part. contracts written in legalese so thick it is a feature not a bug.", stated an X user.
"Everything you clowns have followed is a lie. Hope this helps.", commented another.
"Candace Owens! Are you crying again about how you are the victim of the contract that you yourself agreed to and signed the terms and conditions to?", questioned a third.

Others also chimed in:

"Prince did not have a will. His music was sold to Primary Wave (Tidal.) I find that interesting.", noted a netizen.
"George Michael also spoke up, John Lennon too.", penned another.
"Candace has given up on investigating her little brother's assassination so she can pursue her champagne wishes and caviar dreams.", commented a third.

Notably, Ye has criticized contracts multiple times that leave artists without ownership of their work. In 2020, he also shared pages of his contracts. Owens also shared Ye's admiration for Taylor Swift's decision to re-record her masters. This was how Swift regained control after the sale of her original catalog.

According to Owens, Ye has discussed doing the same but allegedly has not found time to undertake the process. As of now, Ye has not officially issued any statement regarding Candace Owens' claims.
